What was Dahmer’s obsession for this film?
Was it simply because it was new at the time of the dahmers spree of killing?

shareSerial killler Danny Rolling (The Poor Man's Ted Bundy) was also a fan. He took the name "Gemini" from this movie to use as the name of the "demon" that "possessed" him and made him kill.
Both of them were operating at about the same time as this film's release. I think they just fixated on this as you said: because it was new and fairly popular at the time.
appreciate the response and interesting post. Never knew that about Rolling. Ive never watched exorcist 3, only have ever seen " that scene" at the hospital. I should probably give it a watch. Just never thought to after watching that acid trip known as The Heretic.
shareThe Hospital scene is all I remember from this movie. I don't recall being that impressed with part 3 when I rented it back in the 1990s. I watched The Exorcist parts one and two again this week.
Part 2 was indeed one of the most bizarrely disjointed films I ever saw, and I happen to really like all the other films of John Boorman, Zardoz included. Oh well, the Africa scenes looked cool, like something from an old fantasy film.
Going to watch part 3 again today after about 30 years.
Well, I just watched part 3 and while it was better than 2, it was nowhere near the original.
I was thinking while watching it that a big part of the appeal to Dahmer (and Rolling) was that because the killings were actually the work of evil spirits possessing someone, entertaining this idea allowed them to perhaps dodge responsibility for their own crimes. "It wasn't me! It was that Demon controlling me!"
