Having just watched Die Hard and now onto Die Hard 2, I was watching Willis in the scenes before he gets to the airport and thinking he was a much better actor by this time.
Only two years elapsed between DH and DH2 and DH was a notable breakthrough for him. He was clearly a lot more experienced and able to express himself well in DH2.
I think we saw a quite different Willis in DH, finding his feet and style.
Yes he's at his peak in this film, both in acting & physical terms. I preferred McClane in this one compared to 1 and especially 3, he has a real spring in his step here.

shareThat's because Bruce started to become jaded with films, particularly action ones, and Die Hard 3 was the beginning of the 'phone it in Willis' where you can just imagine him coming out of his trailer with a sullen attitude and not giving 100% to the scene he was about to film, which shows big time in the third Die Hard.
