Does anyone here on Moviechat actually think this movie was better than part II?

I find them to be both pretty equal.
shareI remember feeling disappointed when I was a kid and saw it in the theaters. Seemed out-of-step with the first two.
shareYeah I never was big into Westerns (though I found some appreciation for them later in life after seeing THE WILD BUNCH and a few Spaghetti's I really loved like KEOMA), so III always felt a little bit more of a slog to me.
II is a weird movie and has sections that I like a lot more than others. It's the only movie in the entire series though that actually depicts "The Future" of the title, so that makes it a winner in my book, as flawed as it is. Some of the split screen effects in it are really amazing for the time, like when there's 3 Michael J. Foxes all eating dinner together. Even in this digital age, that sort of thing is hard to pull off. The gimmick added to the camp nature of the film, which III avoided in an attempt to be a "classier" picture and earn better reviews. I like Steenbergen (mainly because she reminds me of an ex-girlfriend I really liked), but didn't appreciate so much of a comedy-scifi Back to the Future movie turned into a love story.
