i wasn't around really to enjoy these movies when they first came out because i was far too young but now that i have netflix i keep going through every 80's comedy i can find because i think they're so hilarious (so much different than todays comedies)
does anyone recommend any other 80's / early 90's comedies that have a similar tone? i mean the outrageous lead actors and just silly, non-realistic humor type?
Uncle buck for sure The Great Outdoors Im watching the Blues Brothers right now, the original Stripes you could go a lil older with "The Toy" & "Brewster's Millions" their are so many good ones...
Most of the classics have already been mentioned. Other movies which come into my mind right now are: "Hot Pursuit", "The Secret of my Success", "Wilt", "Eat The Rich", "The Pope Must Die", "The Supergrass", "Top Secret", "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey", "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure", "The Money Pit" and maybe -if you don't mind a bit of action-comedies "Gotcha", "Off Beat", "If Looks Could Kill" At least I liked them since I first saw them back then (but then I was just a child)
Also try Armed and Dangerous, The Money Pit (remake of Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House) National Lampoon's Vacation series (though some are not that funny) and the incredible Raising Arizona by The Coen brothers. If you're ready to go back a little more, try The Jerk, Blazing Saddles and The Pink Panther Strikes Again. There's also a movie called Kentucky Fried Movie, kind of a predecessor of Amazon Women on The Moon.
You must definitely watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
But the funniest ones are already mentioned:
Top Secret The Naked Gun The Blues Brothers Ferris Bueller's Day Off (not just funny, a great movie) Amazon Women on The Moon
You may also want to check the filmographies of 80's comedy stars, you may find hidden jewels there that we all may have missed:
Tom Hanks Gene Wilder Richard Pryor Steve Martin Chevy Chase John Candy Martin Short Leslie Nielsen
If you don't mind subtitles (I know many Americans don't like them) try French comedies by Lino Ventura (one of my all-time favourite actors) and Jean Paul Belmondo. Some of them are not exactly comedies, but still filled with strong humour.
Back to the Future Top Secret History of the World Police Academy Catholic Boys Mannequin Pretty in Pink Sixteen Candles The Breakfast Club Revenge of the Nerds The Gods Must Be Crazy
Out on a Limb , Tin Men, Midnight Run, And Justice for All (ah... not eigthies) - some other of my favorite comedies. Ferris Bueller's Day Off, of course...
