What the heck happened with this movie?

It wasn't scary, at all. Not even a little. No suspense.

Freddy was really campy. Like a clown. No terror from him at all.

All the deaths were lame. And compared to the others, there was so little violence

It's like some weird pg 13 horror, but not

They wanted it to be darker, but weren't willing to sacrifice the campiness that had made the Freddy character a money maker, so they tried to mesh together a serious story with a peacockish Krueger and it didn't work.

It could've though. There are episodes of Freddy's Nightmares that I think are scarier than this movie, that even did a reputable job of combining Freddy's dark/scary and flamboyant/campy sides.
