Who do you side with more, Homer or Frank Grimes?

The writers have said that "Homer's Enemy" is their idea of what would happen if a person from the real world lived in the Simpsons world, but I don't know. I've worked with some lazy people, unintelligent people, unscrupulous people, and people who no matter what never seem to get called on their faults for reasons unclear, (although I'm not sure I've ever seen all of those traits wrapped up in the same individual), and I never snapped to the extent that Grimes did. Then again, I don't have Grimes' intelligence or lifetime of bad luck, so it's hard for me to judge.

Homer, while his stupidity was exaggerated in this episode, at least made an attempt to be friends with Grimes, and while his presentation of his "perfect" life may have felt like a slap in the face, he did not intend it that way.

What does anybody think?

Homer.

The fact that Homer has a good life, despite his shortcomings, while Grimes has a sad life, despite his gifts, has nothing to do with Homer himself. Grimes anger was misplaced, unfairly directed towards Homer instead of life, chance, injustice etc

Yeah, Grimey definitely drew the short straw in life, but I don't think Grimes would have been anywhere near as antagonistic against Homer if Homer didn't do things like eat Grimes lunch or insist on calling him Grimey.

But we all love Homer and I also was on Homer's side.

Homer. Grimes was arrogant and could not stand a dumb guy like Homer having successs. He arrogantly told Homer that if he lived a hundred years ago he would never live long. He let his bad luck get the best of him.

Homer by a very slight margin. Frank understandably had a lot of built up anger and frustration with his life, and having to work with someone like Homer brought out the worst in him. So Homer did try to do something nice and invite him to his home and introduce him to his family, but if I remember right didn't Homer make up some emergency to get him over there rather than just invite him? And that just made things even worse because now Frank was confronted with Homers nice home and family, and his achievement closet, which by way I would love to go thru that closet.

My one knock on Frank would be getting so upset about the nickname Grimy. Even with his tough life there had to be other guys in his life, and there's no way he's not getting that nickname. That's just a guy thing. Even if the word itself isn't great at least someone there cared enough to give you a nickname. And the madder you act about it, the more it makes it stick. And his line about it "I took the time to learn your name."
