He was way over the top with his compliments and came off as an insincere ass kisser. His lines made my eyes roll because they were embarrassing, but they worked on Laura, Carl and everybody else. I understand why Myra hated his guts.

But I guess that they might have exaggerated his ability to win everybody over because the plot demanded it.
I too agreed with Myra about Stephan just being lame and preferred Steve.
And every time he saw Laura he would make her another smarmy compliment as if he's met her for the first time.
shareI was out on the show at this point. The notion that Steven made a machine that tried to make him cool is very in line with the character and show, but the fact they made it a regular thing is what didn't work. Stefan should have been a one-off experiment that was never seen again. Not a regular eliminating the most popular TV character of that era.

But I guess that the character gave Jaleel White a chance to use his normal voice and still be on the show.
