I don't get the hate for this movie

This was much better then Poltergeist 2, I enjoyed this a whole lot more. Tom Skerrit and Nancy Allen are a couple of a my favourite actors/actresses and made this a fun watch

Baby, you make me wish i had three hands.

I actually like this one. Sure, it feels different than the first two in that it's more dark and serious in tone all the way through whereas the first had light, funny moments sprinkled in with the horror. But a slight change in tone doesn't make it a bad movie. I don't like it as much as the first but I do enjoy it a bit more than Part II. It also has what is now one of my favorite moments of the entire series where Tangina says "Innocence is the only gift we're given in life. All else must be fought for." then talks about how we lose our strength when we lose our innocence. I found that very powerful and it rang true to me.

I hate this movie because not only is it just plain bad, I believe that if it wasn't made, Heather O'Rourke might not have died from her medical condition due to a misdiagnosis.

reply

Heather was misdiagnosed months before Poltergeist 3 started filming and she died 6/7 months after filming wrapped up - I don't think being in poltergeist 3 contributed to her death

reply

If she died 6-7 months after filming wrapped, then why did they use a stand in for some of the final scenes? I thought she died near the close of shooting.

reply

The original ending they filmed in the summer of 87 was scrapped and they decided to film a new one http://www.poltergeistiii.com/originalending.html - I think MGM decided to re-do the ending just before she died. After her death they could have gone with the ending they already had (with Heather in it) and not bother with the reshoot but that original ending had Carol-Anne's lifeless, frozen body in and it would have been in bad taste considering Heather had just passed away so they did that ending with the body double

I agree! What I love about this movie is the use of mirrors. We all use mirrors daily, we have a reflection and this movie breaks the mirror rule. Things go into and come out of mirrors. That is scary!!! It creeped me out as a kid and even now at times. I love the story too. Now I agree I'd rather have her parents and brother there instead of aunt, uncle and cousin but this is still a great movie.

I don't either. I've always loved this movie. I loved the setting, the effects, the cast and the music.

This was the first I saw of the series, and actually found both 1 and 2 disappointing when I saw them.

I love all 3 movies in the trilogy in their own way. I just wish that Heather hadn't died and she could've gone on to make more movies both acting and as she wanted to eventually do,directing. I love the original for the whole original story and the uniqueness of having a little girl kidnapped by ghosts and the family has to get her back, something never done as a plot in a horror movie about ghosts until the 1982 original.I love the second for the family still being together (minus oldest daughter Dana due to the death of Dominique Dunne; which I hated, that they never give a reason for her absence in the movie [I know in some drafts it's mentioned that Dana's away at college but this is never mentioned in P2 itself]),and the introduction of the villain;Henry Kane and I love the third, well, for the uniqueness of the mirror scenes and concept and the city setting and well,I just love Heather/Carol Anne in those red feet pajamas. I agree, though, that P3 could've been better if put in more competent hands and would've preferred the original ending but overall,I just love the whole trilogy. Last year's remake: that's a whole other matter.

This movie was horrible and the worse in the series.
