Game - Who would you cast instead of Rosanna Arquette?

I created a drinking game that I play once in a while (actually just once) with some movie industry friends:
Naturally we all agree that Rosanna Arquette was horribly miscast in Big Blue, and there's nothing we can do about it, like Besson isn't going to reshoot all scenes she was in using another actress or anything... but, imagine that you could.

So who would YOU cast as Johana Baker instead of Ms. Arquette?

reply

I thought she was all right. True, it isn't often that the love interest is also the comic relief, but why ever not? Mayol is a fairly unusual character so his girlfriend ought to be as well.

reply

She was perfect in the pasta and mamma scene.

reply

Anyone - she is totally lame.

You are wrong, Rosanna was sensational in this movie. I wouldn't cast anyone else.

Now while I thought Arquette portrayed fitting Johana Baker, and I F I were Luc Besson's position and of the time, I might've gone with a young Isabella Rossellini or perhaps Michelle Pfeiffer, and of which both could've done a commensurate job in terms of portraying certain level of innocence in this not so complex tale of love, and that of the Big Blue.

Phoebe Cates.

If you ask me, Phoebe Cates should have been in every damn movie of the 80s anyway...
Those of my generation should understand why.

We're grown men, over the age of 30 who moved in together... we're two tigers away from an act in Vegas.

Uma Thurman.

LOL
too dominant :-)

I think Rosanna was very good for the emotionally clingy -Johana part. And at times she sounded like a dolphin too(high squeaks)

She was perfect for the role as she was given. I think some people have issues with the type of character she was portraying rather than the actress. I guess as Americans we're used to Love Interests as mere Eye Candy. I can't imagine anyone else doing her character justice and would come off as dullness with big tits.

Terrible casting imo, Beatrice Dalle or someone magnificently edgy of the time perhaps? For sure not *beep* Rosanna Arquette.

I had an intense and irrational dislike for Arquette back then and I really hated her in this movie... if her sister Patricia had been a bit older then, she would have been much better in the part. Practically anyone would, she was very annoying.
