Game - Who would you cast instead of Rosanna Arquette?

I created a drinking game that I play once in a while (actually just once) with some movie industry friends:
Naturally we all agree that Rosanna Arquette was horribly miscast in Big Blue, and there's nothing we can do about it, like Besson isn't going to reshoot all scenes she was in using another actress or anything... but, imagine that you could.

So who would YOU cast as Johana Baker instead of Ms. Arquette?

reply

nobody, she was perfect in my opinion.

I'm glad you enjoyed her in Big Blue... she just kind of spoiled it for me. I was blissfully getting lost in the beauty and pace of the movie and she just repeatedly slapsticked her way into the scenes, ruining it.

But anyway, I'll suggest someone who I would have enjoyed more I think, bearing in mind that one of the rules (of this particular game) is that the actress has to be American because I think Besson made it a business decision.

It's 1988... so my first choice is Demi Moore, back in her St. Elmo's Fire days.

reply

Well to be honest I don't think I can make an objective decision, because Rosanna Arquette reminds me of a girl I once knew, and that is probably why I liked her so much in the film. But still, I do think she's a good actress and did fit the character well. Demi Moore, on the other hand, gets on my nerves like no other, so I'm extremely happy she wasn't in it.

I too thought Rosanna was perfect in The Big Blue. But just to play the game, maybe 1980's Meg Ryan could have pulled off a decent performance.

I would cast Bea Arthur.

Rosanna Arquette, she added the right chemistry to the mix...I mean her ditzy quirkyness kinda added the right balance to the two lovers.

reply

Rossana was great if you ask me.

reply

Well the question was subjective, right?

I believe she was delightful in this one even if she always looks out of place... I wouldn't replace her with anyone else, the big gap between the characters in this movie is what makes it a great movie !

imho the whole point was that she was 'miscast'. the character was a new york working girl thrown into a world which she didnt belong in or understand until she pulled the cord. pardon the pun but she was supposed to be a 'fish out of water'.

"in this world there's two kinds of people ... those with loaded guns, and those who dig."

Nastassja Kinski, of course.

Nastassja Kinski, of course - of course! ;-)

reply

Hey... good one. Nastassja Kinski would have been awesome.

reply

reply
