This IS a Christmas Movie.

New York City policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for. But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there's no one to save the hostages -- but him.

It’s not a movie about Christmas, so i would hesitate to call it an official Xmas movie. More like a lightly Christmas themed one. You could remove Christmas from the plot and it wouldn’t change things.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie for two main reasons. First, it is set on Christmas Eve and is filled with references to the holiday. Second, its message centers on the importance of family, friends, and appreciating what truly matters in life. This message aligns with the traditional values of the holiday, especially the emphasis on family above all else.

For anyone who argues that there are no miracles in the movie, they are mistaken. John's survival against overwhelming odds and Al Powell's ability to overcome his trauma and use his gun to save John and his wife are nothing short of miraculous.
