could it work?

CT made 171m ww in 1988 (roughly half of Top Gun) = near 500m today

Thing is with Top Gun Maverick no one thought it could do as much box office as it did , its literally taking out Marvel and Star Wars in all time box office , so studios must be now looking at some of Cruises other 80s hits and be like 'y'know if we could just get him to sign up maybe this could do a billion too'

Cocktail, Legend (fantasy/sword&sorcery now a big deal), Risky Business - all potential sequel hits. I'm sure there's scripts now landing on Cruises desk for them and others

Scripts don't "land" on Cruise's desk. He runs his own production company. The only scripts he sees are the ones that he orders.

Does he own 'Cocktail'? whichever studio owns it is probably working on a script now to include Cruise or not (as he probably wouldn't be interested) A Cocktail 2 without Cruise would still make some money

Cocktail isn't the kind of movie that calls for a sequel. There wasn't much of a plot at all. It's just a stand-alone guilty pleasure. Nothing more.
