Randomly turning Roseanne's father into a child abuser after 3 seasons

Was so ridiculous, and it didn't fit with anything we had seen of him in the show for the last 3 seasons. He and Roseanne got along everytime he came around, Roseanne was even sitting on the couch with her arm around him on one of thanksgiving episode he was in, cause yeah they always invited him to thanksgiving.

There was ZERO hints or signs of him abusing Roseanne and Jackie when they was kids, Roseanne even acted jealous in one episode telling Jackie that shes daddy's favorite. And whenever he'd come around he was always joking and fun loving, cause thats where Roseanne was supposed to have gotten her sense of humor cause her mother was such a stick in the mud.

But then near the end of season 4 we're supposed to suddenly think of him as this mean child abuser, and Roseanne suddenly has all this hate for him, and we never even actually see him again after they turn him into a child abuser, which makes it harder to buy him as that, cause all we've seen of him was being a jokster. And then she doesn't even care when he dies, which seems ridiculous when you see how they joke with each other in the early seasons, Roseanne from seasons 1 and 3 would have been devastated by her father dying.

That never made any sense to me either. It was a case of the show changing the backstory of a character in order to service a bunch of new scripts, like Beverly having a full on hate for the other woman Joan at her husband's funeral.

It was mostly unrealistic. It could happen, but Beverly seemed to be happy with her husband. There were no signs of a bitter angry woman who knew her husband was fooling around. And wives, even if they ignore it, almost always know or at least suspect.

Yeah thats another thing, not only did they make him a child abuser they also made him a cheater who was seeing another woman while Beverly knew about it, for some reason they decided to take a huge shit on his character. I'm surprised they didn't make him a pedophile while they was at it.

And they just essentially rewrote history, cause theres the part where Jackie says "I didn't get to have a relationship with my father for the last years of his life because of you, you made him feel so unwelcome he would have never came here" even though he was always coming around for thanksgiving and to visit.... they just tried to rewrite the history of the show all of a sudden and we was supposed to act like the previous 2 or 3 seasons of him coming around never happened.

I think Roseanne Arnold used that storyline to stick it to her parents. Remember how she told everyone that both her parents were abusive to her as a child. I never believed it. I think she was influenced to do that by sicko Tom Arnold. That guy was a maniac for sure.

I figured he probably mellowed as he got older, and Roseanne wanted to keep the peace, but we don't find out about how he really was when they were kids.
