Does anyone like this one more than the Brat Pack movies?

John Hughes is best known for the Brat Pack films, but I could never get into them... This one, however, is one of my top favorites. I think it is very sweet, and I will always have a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson.

Hail to the king, baby.

It was certainly better than St. Elmo's fire, pretty in pink, and Class. I'd put it above 16 candles as well. I'd have to look at a full list of brat pack movies though. Don't remember all of them.

..nothing beats The Breakfast Club :)

That was definitely the best and most popular of them all. I remember in school everybody was quoting those lines from the movie and everybody wanted to be like John Bender

I love this movie..it really takes me back to my high school years.

I agree that this movie is much better than the Brat Pack movies, which are so overrated.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

I like them all - SEF not so much.

SKOW is set apart in one way - it's more of a slice of life film.

Not so much comedy or fantasy moments as in some Hughes directed films.

I agree with you 100%. I thought that his Brat Pack films were okay but I was never really a big fan of them. However, I absolutely loved this movie. It had outstanding dialogue, a captivating plot, well-defined characters, and a great feel good ending.

Mary Stuart Masterson was superb and I never get tired of rewatching her masterful performance in this movie.

Eric was also masterful. He is a real master of micro-expressions, giving a performance where it seems like he's not doing much of anything: https://popcultmaster.com/2019/06/28/wonderful-kind-of-some/

I like Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Some Kind of Wonderful. Even Weird Science.

The Hughes related film I liked was Home Alone. I hated all his teen movies. I thought they were obnoxious and full of wish fulfillment on his part.

There is something really strange about a grown adult still trying to work out problems from his teen years. In public, no less.

This film was made because he hated that Molly Ringwald didn't end up of with his Gary Stu self Insert Ducky. Ringwald correctly deduced that her character would never be interested in Ducky. She was correct. The problem remains in this film. It is not believable that Ducky Watts would ever end up with Keith.
