I thought Julie Kavner had the best role of her career in this film as Seth Green's mother. Warm and funny, Kavner created one of the most likeable moms I have ever seen in a film and should have received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work here. Anyone agree?

Julie Kavner was perfect as the mom. but the whole cast was great. just very well cast from beginning to end.

Of course, I've seen it about a dozen times and could not imagine anyone else in those roles, but they were SO well written, and played with just the right amount of "stereotypical lower-middle-class NY Jew" that they are fleshed out characters, yet always seem asa natural as if we are watching a documentary.
Julie Kavner is indeed the heart of this picture, and I think it really put her on the map. Both of the other sisters were exactly right, too, as was cousin Ruthie and her party-line snooping.
Yes. This is in my top 3 of Woody Allen movies. I watch it every time I see it on the TV schedule.
