Why does the guide leave?

When the drug dealers are looking for Mick Dundee in the beginning, the guide asks who their looking for but then he leaves. Did he just try to take their money without doing the job of finding Crocodile Dundees?

It's because he knows/respects/is friends with Mick Dundee. He'll track someone, but he won't track a friend; he has morals.

I always loved that part. Just no second thought to it, he was outta there. As far as he was concerned, being on the bad end of Mick Dundee was a bad idea and he wasn't going to have any part of it.

Similar to the guide disappearing, when I was driving through New Zealand, my girlfriend and I stopped at a tiny deserted town with two small buildings. An aborigine appeared in the sand out of nowhere and looked at us, as we looked back at him. Then he disappeared. I walked over to where he was standing and there were no footprints in the sand. One of the more mysterious things that has ever happened to me in life.
