How promiscuous do you think Kelly was?

Bud cracked a lot of jokes about how easy she was and the type of guys she dated but over time it became evident that he wasn't exaggerating so much. She'd have multiple dates in one night, at one point it was mentioned that there was a ladder leading to her bedroom, Al said she hadn't slept at home in years, she's mentioned experiences at the police academy & a frat house, getting through high school by doing something to/with her teachers & principal, being paid to do things that she enjoyed, she was completely naked in a public hot tub in Fort Lauderdale, and had a "little black book" that looks like a phone book for Chicago. Sounded like she often came home wearing far fewer clothes than when she left. Obviously she'd put out on the first date with a guy she liked even if she barely knew him and didn't know his name, but do you think she was involved in group stuff or something that could qualify her as a prostitute or stripper?

She had a healthy interest in the opposite sex, but not sure she put out/went all the way with all her dates. She may have given some oral sex only or just made out or heavy petting. There was a season seven episode, "T-R-A-Something-Something Spells Tramp" where Kelly DID NOT put out for her date (Corey Feldman) who made her walk home as punishment. She met up with some other girls and related her dating experiences and it was made clear that while she dated a lot, she didn't always put out.

She must have had quite a history! Once when she needed money ("Kids, Wadaya Gonna Do?"), she remarked that if her mom hadn't made her stop kissing for money when she was 5 she wouldn't be in that fix. And when she wanted to have a party once, Al reminded her of a previous one that got the cops called. "Dad, I was 8 then." "Yes," responds Al, "But the judge wanted to try you as an adult!"

Another time, Peggy tells her, "Oh, let's face it. You've been the 'other woman' ever since you learned how to tear a slit up the side of your diaper!"

How much of a whore was Kelly? Well Al used to make her play horsey naked when she was a kid. Any questions?

In what episode was it revealed that Al used to make her play horsey naked?

Then there was the time Kelly was hired by nuns to be the spokesperson for their extra virgin olive oil and nearly went crazy trying to stay chaste!

I recall on Conan, Christina A., replied that she considered Kelly to be a virgin. I was surprised by that comment considering the boyfriends she had. But who knows maybe she was just a sexy flirt. However I do recall she was dating a married politician, later Bud exposed her to the press by taking pictures.

There's a revealing moment in one show where Al becomes sexually attractive to every woman he meets and he asks Kelly how to deal with it, and she tells him how it's every good-looking person's obligation to take advantage of others but that "The important thing is to never let them touch you". That pretty much sums up the Kelly Philosophy.

She was a promiscuous flirt but not sexually promiscuous - I think it's clear that Bud's constant baiting is to counteract her constant remarks that he's a failure with the opposite sex.

Sex was probably always an option, but I get the feeling that she wasn't always a subservient bimbo. She seemed like she had enough of a personality to say no if she wasn't interested.

She would go after any man that looked good. That's the way she was.

reply

Kelly was such a whore that even in Peggy's womb, she was already planning on which mini-skirts to wear once she popped out.

I remember she was upset that the Hispanic guy she was on a date with didn't put out. Also, remember the episode about the couch being burned and had to replace it? I think she banged that guy because he said that the only other option was sex because she could not afford the sofa.

Speaking of furniture, on an early episode of MwC it was mentioned that Kelly's bedpost had so many notches engraved in it that it no longer functioned as furniture.

reply

She didn't have sex with him.

reply

Kelly didnt have sex with the couch guy. He wanted something from her that he didn't have in a long time. A BED!! Lol she gave the couch guy Al and Pegs bed.

It was the 1980s. Kelly may have been a flirt, dressed slutty, and made out with a lot of guys, but she probably rarely put out. I know that she was just a fictional character, but having been a teen in the 80s myself (when safe sex was all the rage and there were PSAs every five seconds warning about teen pregnancy), my gut instinct is that she was no more promiscuous than any teen at the time. She was just more open about her sexuality.

With the Corey Feldman episode from season 5, I'd say Kelly was the type to sleep around on only her own terms and not at the wishes or demands of the guy. The episode plays up bimbo stereotypes for laughs, but the serious moments are even better: With Bud even defending and standing up for her by giving the sleazebag guy the measles as revenge. Bud really cares for Kelly despite all the arguments and nasty things they did to one another. And it's nice to see the occasional episode where one of the family members gets to show it. That's another reason how great MWC is. For all the nasty stuff and claims to the contrary, they really do care.

Was Kelly's constant flood of boyfriends ever explained as seeking a father figure's approval that she didn't get from Al? I think that was dropped at some point in the show, but I think for the most part she does it to get various things as well as because she wants to.

The sexual politics of this show are unique looking back at it thirty years later because a lot has changed in that time and the show is funny but has some parts where you kinda flinch.

she was pumping out loaves of bread from her money maker.

She's a fictional character, thus the script authors would write about her whatever they think is funny ?

Personally I'm not in favor of the extreme Flanderization of the character. She started out quite a bit more interesting.
