Why couldn't they just use the music from the TV series?

The weakest part of this film is the music which is such a shame because it was such a strong point of the TV series. All the epic battle scenes and deaths are totally drained of their drama as soon as "You've-got-the-touch..." comes on.
I'd love to see this film re-edited with all the Soundtrack songs replaced with the incidental music from the show.
Yes I understand why it was done. A new, top 40 style soundtrack was easier to market as a soundtrack album for people to buy but Jesus... it was so awful.

Cheesy as they are, "The Touch" and "Dare"-particularly "The Touch"-have carved out a place in 80s pop culture and are beloved by a lot of people. Beyond Optimus Prime's death, it's probably the only thing most people remember about this movie.

I won't disagree with you that artistically speaking orchestral music might've been a better choice, but it was the 80s after all, and cheesy power rock anthems were par for the course.

I feel the OST is just meh BUT the Vince DiCola Score? Now that to me was sweet. Very moody and made some scenes dark and dreadful, like when Kup and Hot Rod was on trial.

Spoilers are overrated...

Weakest part is the music? Are you deaf? The music in this film is epic awesome. The main theme by Lion is the coolest Transformers theme so far.

Pretty much make money. You watch movies on the big screen and then you are, like, hey, I love that song. Got to get the OST now.

totally disagree. I regularily listen to the soundtrack, it has some great instrumental tunes such as Autobot/Decepticon battle:

and FYI, its NOWHERE NEAR a "top 40" soundtrack, more like hair metal or synth metal.

seriously, do yourself a favour and listen to the soundtrack on its own and tell me it aint awesome!

Yes, the soundtrack is amazing, I remember feeling pumped when I heard Lion's Transformers theme blazing through the movie theater's sound system after we witnessed Unicron's first meal banquet. Even my mom caught wind there was an updated theme song lol Good Times.

Honestly, I can't imagine hearing the classic tunes from the tv series being incorporated into the film. I really enjoyed Vince Dicola's score, it definitely had that feature film feel to it and while the episode tunes for the tv series are classic such as the "Here comes trouble" theme (best I can describe it) duh-duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-duh-duh, I prefer Dicola's score and the 80s rock songs that were used.

I agree, I did like the soundtrack but loved the original music from the TV series. I was the most disappointed with them killing off Prime of course, I wish they would have waited until after season 3 or 4 to do the movie and kill them all off. They could have slowly introduced all the new characters they wanted to on the TV show over season 3. That G1 soundtrack and sound effects would have been awesome in the movie though so I'm with you.

Funny how everybody has different opinions, I personally think this has the coolest soundtrack ever made and one of the reasons why I think the film is so good! Yes very cheesy but man, I love Nothings Gonna Stand In Our Way and as soon as the opening drum beat starts at the beginning of the film I get goosebumps.

reply

Agreed! The soundtrack only helps to put this among my favourite movies. I don't even find it cheesy, just 80's.

That soundtrack is my childhood. Loved it. Pure 80s synth pop + commercial rock music. Such an improvement over the Saturday morning stuff we were used to.

Innocence. :-)
