it's hardly shocking that it could take more than 2 or 3 days to find the body. plus at the 2 or 3 day mark you're not thinking about the kid being dead, you're thinking more about a runaway type scenario. especially in a sleepy town in oregon.

i think they call this "plot devise"??. it is reason for plot to happen even though it not realism. we do not have movie if other people do not find body.
but it is realistic, the 1950s were a different time, kids had a lot more freedom because it was so safe, and without videogames, internet... kids spent most of their time outdoors. today a kid goes missing and it's shock he went out in the first place.
So kids spent more time outside, and living in such a rural place like oregan it would be even safer and making things like hikes, fishing and outdoor life more common. therefore not seeming so strange to have your child outdoors and not home.

Castle rock is a sleepy oregon town during the 1950s, 1. you're not going assume the kid has died only 2 or 3 days after he went missing, and 2. it's got a small police force for a town of a 1000 people thats surrounded by countryside, forest and a giant river.... they had a lot of places to look.
