I don’t know the names, but I’m pretty sure the final scenes show us which characters survived. The ones we see lived, the ones we don’t probably died. They show a lot of the deaths during the final battle as well.

Big Harold - CASEVAC before the final battle
Crawford - CASEVAC before the final battle
Tex - Injured after first ambush
Lerner - CASEVAC before the final battle
Doc - Survived I think??

O'Neil, Francis, Taylor and Rah all survived along with Dale Dye.

Capt Harris lived and assigned Red to take over what's left of the Platoon. Taylor collapsed due to stress but survived. Francis self inflicted a wound and survived, fantasizing about paying the white nurses for blowjobs. A few nominal characters survived, seen throwing NVA bodies into unmarked bomb craters post battle. Rhah lived and he roared "Rhah! Rhah! Rhah!" as Taylor's helicopter took off.

Yep O'Neil thought he was on his way out until Harris assigned him. That's Karma for him 👍

Fu Sheng, Morehouse and Tubbs were all killed when Lt. Wolfe called in artillery on the wrong coordinates.

reply

I always thought Doc died. He got shot right before Wolfe, and went down wincing about, then kind of still. Do they show him at the end?

reply

He is briefly at the end, sitting on the ground.

I've only seen this movie in its entirety about three times over the years, but to me the point of not showing all of the characters at the end was because as a war movie you learn to accept that those who aren't there are probably already dead. They highlighted Kevin Dillon and McGinley's characters as still alive but basically ruined men at the end. Those that they did show remind us that not everyone makes it and if they do they probably have to stay and fight on in a fruitless war.

Bunny (Kevin Dillon) is shown getting killed.

Ebenhoch (guy with the long moustache seen throughout but I don't think had any speaking parts) also can be seen at the end.
