Was Chris wounded at the end?
Or was it shell shock? We didn't see him shot, so I'm thinking he was injured from the bombing?

Seemed like the bombs dropped before Barnes could bring down the entrenching shovel. Chris probably would have died if someone with the strength of Barnes brought that shovel down on his face.
shareRewind and watch carefully when Chris breaks up his hammering of the Vietcong soldier.
He hits Chris in the groin with it before the bombs drop.
Didn't notice that. However, in real life, I don't think that would qualify as a wound and therefore he wouldn't be a "two timer." But hey, its just a movie and I' probably over-analyzing.
PS Nice user name
If you hit a guy just right in the neck with one of those, his head will come off.
So easy to imagine the kind of damage it can do to your inner thigh.
True, although I'm not a military expert, so I'm not really sure what constitutes an official wound on paper. I've read a good amount on the Vietnam War and they definitely didn't let soldiers go easily.
shareTaylor had a significant blunt force trauma wound to the inner thigh..serious enough that he was unable to keep in the fight and even after the battle he was unable to remain standing for any length of time. He definitely needed to be evacuated out of the field for treatment, probably in Saigon or Danang. Keep in mind Oliver Stone based Taylor's character on his own experiences in Vietnam..Stone was wounded twice and after the second time he was sent back to the U.S. Stone needed the use of a cane for several years until his wounds finally healed. I imagine this wound was the end of Taylor's fighting in S. Vietnam.
shareThanks. Exactly the answer I was looking for.
shareIt seemed like shock
A hellish night of fighting, Barnes tuning him up and then the bombing...had to be shock
One hell of a scary climax to a great movie
An epic ending for sure. I can't imagine the fear of being overrun by an enemy like that.
shareMe neither...terrifying
Its no wonder 'friendly fire' is sadly common btw
I could hardly keep up with who was who in the flare-lit dark of the climactic battle
And calling in an airstrike on your own position!?!
Talk about 'Russian Roulette'
I wonder how often this very scenario played out during the war
Have you seen the Thin Red Line? Similar scene where they call in an artillery strike almost on their on position. All that was protecting them was a large rock.
Though friendly fire still happens in war, thankfully its much less common than it used to be.
Ive never seen Thin Red Line and ive been meaning too
I gotta find it and get on that
Thank goodness
I remember the example in Born on the 4th of July with Cruise...sadly very easy to see how that can happen
Barnes hit Chris with a shovel. I think Chris was trying to get Barnes to get to his foxhole because the airstrike was coming in but I could be wrong.
