Stupid Choices Made By Characters

I thought this movie was pretty entertaining, but there were a whole bunch of choices made by the characters that were annoying. Almost all of them were made by the main character.

1. Jim picked up the hitcher, even though his mother told him never to do that, which he admitted to the hitcher.

2. The family that picked up the hitcher let him stay in the back seat with their young daughter. What kind of parents would allow that? They should've at least had him sit up front in the passenger seat and have the mother sit in the back with the daughter.

3. When Jim sees the car that the family was in on the side of the road, he got out of his car to look at it. What for? Wouldn't he be thinking the hitcher killed that family and is just waiting for him?

4. When Jim went back into his car, he actually took the time to vomit on the ground with the door open instead of just getting in his car and getting out of there as fast as he could. He could've at least closed the door and barfed in the car. The hitcher could've easily killed him while he was barfing.

5. When Jim went to the abandoned gas station, he left his keys in the car.

6. When Jim was trying to escape from the hitcher after being covered in gas, he actually took the time to roll up his window before driving off, when the fire that the hitcher made after throwing his match on the gas-covered ground could've easily reached him. Why not drive away as fast as possible?

7. When Jim entered the diner, he didn't say anything to Nash about the hitcher or try to warn her. Why the hell not?

8. After Jim called the cops and they arrived, he didn't tell them he was the one who called. He just let them think he was the killer and arrest him.

9. When Jim was in the car with the two cops and the hitcher came from behind and shot them, Jim didn't try to talk to the sheriff on the receiver to tell him what happened, even though he was talking to him right before the hitcher arrived.

10. When Jim went in the diner and ordered coffee, he didn't ask to use the phone there. He just wanted coffee.

11. When Jim and Nash were in the motel, he didn't try to call anyone. He could've tried calling his brother again like he did earlier in the film and he might've answered the phone this time.

12. When Jim was in the bathroom getting ready to take a shower, he heard a noise but didn't immediately exit the bathroom to check on Nash. He just kept on calling her name several times, and when he did go out, it was too late because the hitcher had taken her. He might've been able to save her if he didn't stay in the bathroom that whole time.

It just wouldn't be a horror movie without barely functional morons doing everything possible to end up part of the body count.

I was also annoyed by almost all of those, except for the last 3 since I think he had given up on trying to clear himself at that point and I think he was scared to go out of the bathroom right away (though it raises the additional question of why he didn't have a weapon on him).
The cops and Nash also did many stupid things in this movie.
I understand people make mistakes and I wouldn't want them to be perfect, but when they act this stupidly, it's a problem. Plenty of horror and thriller movies have characters who act at least like they have average intelligence.

They had a son too, the same age as the daughter.

"I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?"

Jim turned his back on the hitcher at the very end when the hitcher was still clearly breathing whilst lying on the ground.
