Well, when Jack Webb brought Dragnet back in the 60s, to avoid confusion with the 1950s shows that in some places were still being shown in reruns, the new version was titled "Dragnet 1967."

And would you believe a year later, it became "Dragnet 1968"? And...so on.

I have one more: In 1955 CBS put on a show that was titled You'll Never Get Rich. About 2 months later, it was retitled The Phil Silvers Show, with the original title becoming a subtitle.

The funny thing about that was, according to what I've heard, most people just called it after Silvers' lead character, as in, "Did you see Bilko last night?"

Some of these are actually spin off shows and not the same series renamed. Eg. Three's Company and Three's a Crowd.

In the very late 70...

Kate Mulgrew starred in a pseudo-spin off of Columbo, where she was suppose to be Columbo's never-before-seen wife who solved crimes like her husband did. However, after a handful of episodes, the show decided to dump the Columbo link. The show only lasted one season but went through FOUR names in that time:

Mrs. Columbo
Kate Columbo
Kate The Detective
Kate Loves A Mystery

I only recall this show as I thought it was inane it to introduce the show (using a Columbo link as a way to try to hook an audience) and then almost immediately ditching the connection.
