Killer Joe is great as others have stated. You have to look at it the right way though. A hilarious black comedy.

I'm a fan of The Hunted as well. I think it's a sharp, and underrated thriller.

Another un-heralded film of Friedkin's is BLUE CHIPS about corruption in the NCAA. It features a stand-out performance by Nick Nolte as a college basketball coach, the film also features real athletes like Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway.
