The werewolf..
Is it just me or did the werewolf look more like a bear then a wolf-like creature?

shareSB is an excellent werewolf film. Period.

shareI think the werewolf in this film is an excellent creation. True, the transformation sequences are relatively phony-looking, but the end result is pretty convincing, and definitely menacing. Yes, the werewolf is quite bear-like in many ways, but that actually makes it a much more frightening creation, in my opinion. Bears can be just as frightening, if not more at times, than wolves, and to have a man-wolf creature of the same size and ferocity of a bear is not something to be taken lightly-- in other words, "bearwolves," like the one in this film and a few other werewolf movies, work! Besides, the werewolf itself, at least at the end of the film, is very realistic and cool-looking, and it remains one of my favorites (in terms of appearances, that is; there are better werewolf films out there).
That werewolf was a G.
shareYes, the first time I saw the movie was in 1985, at the theater. And I thought it looked more like a bear than a wolf.
The best looking werewolf I've ever seen was in "Bad Moon" with Michael Pare. The transformation scene was weak, but it's the scariest looking werewolf I've ever seen in a movie.
Yeah I love the werewolf in the movie, it looks creepy, since it resembles something that is real (a bear). And a bear can do about the same damage as that werewolf, reminds you of real life horror, then mixed with a monster in a movie.
shareyo yo yo, check it.
I raise werewolves from scratch, and I can honestly say that the werewolf in this film is a pretty good representation of what real werewolves look like.
"from scratch"? What is a werewolf to you, a chocolate cake?
Anyway, this movie is from 1985, people. Yeah the costume is a little silly, but that's also why it's great.
Something to keep in mind is that in An American Werewolf in London, the werewolf was a quadriped animal that was realized as an articulated puppet and model.
In Silver Bullet, the creature was played by a man in a costume and make-up. So, naturally it would look different.
I thought the werewolf in this film looked fine.
is it the best werewolf? certainly not.
is it the worst? I don't think so.
it certainly could of been better, but as far as a horror
movie goes, it worked. it was definitely bear-like, I didn't mind
that (ref 'Prophecy' (1979)) and it could of worked, but it was a bit disappointing. I think the director knew that and kept the full view to the very end for that reason.
funny though, it really just personal. somebody in this thread commented that the werewolf from van helsing was the best. I thought that one was one of the worst. I could see right through the cgi and while I'm watching the movie I was laughing at how bad it looked. I thought I was watching that scene in mary poppins with dick van dyke and the penquins.
american werewolf in london though is still the best one.
Well the werewolf suit on this movie was made by Carlo Rambaldi, who with Rick Baker made the FX for Dino de Laurenti´s "King Kong",(Dino is the proucer of Silver Bullet). The influence on that previous work may explain the werewolf resembles a bear or a gorilla(I would swear the werewolf hands are exactly Kong´s one with an added bigger nails
sharethat would make sense
I think therefore I drink.
Yeah my dad worked on the movie and it was prety much the same hands with some modifications..... the scene in the fog where you see the werewolf's hand comming out of the mist with the bat.... that was my dad's hand in the glove.
I WEAR THE CHEESE IT DOES NOT WEAR ME!!!
Definitely my favorite werewolf flick, but Dog Soldiers has the best looking costumes hands down. Check that one out if you haven't seen it...
shareIt's always refreshing to see a twist on the appearance of werewolves in any movie. It'd be a bummer if they all looked the same. In my opinion, the best werewolf would have to be Michael Jacksons werewolf in Thriller. Rick Baker commented and said it was more of a were-cat...but it was still scary looking. Of course, the Silver Bullet werewolf did seem like a bear, like some have said, and the werewolf in An American Werewolf in London was dubbed "The Hound From Hell" by Baker himself.
I read somewhere that McGill also wore the werewolf costume as well. :)

I think the werewolves in the church nightmare scene were a little better than the actual werewolf, cause they were more human looking and manical, and also lit well enough that you caught flashes of them in a strobe. They looked more like the classic Iniversal wolf man. But, I have to admit, there have been much worse werewolves in films in recent movies
shareI have always wondered what they did with the body of the Right Reverend Wolfman?
shareI just recently saw this movie & thought it was a very good movie for 1985. The werewolf was very good for the time period. Have seen other werewolf movies where the werewolf was a little better but it was still good.
shareThe monster in this film is a trainwreck, and it ruins the film for me.
shareMe too. I'd have to say my all time favorites for werewolves would be from The Howling, Dog Soldiers and Underworld. I think the Bad Moon wolf while scary looking it was. Also looked to fake as well.
shareIt's a bear-wolf.
