The werewolf..
Is it just me or did the werewolf look more like a bear then a wolf-like creature?

shareYes, it was one of the most disappointing werewolves I've seen grace the screen. Considering this came out in the wake of American Werewolf in London and The Howling the effects were pretty weak. Hell Lon Chaney Jr. in Wolf Man was better.
shareThat's weird. I think this was one of the best werewolves.

I was quite satisfied for the werewolf in this movie. I agree that American Werewolf in London had the best werewolf in history, but I think it would have been disappointment if the wolf in Silver Bullet would have look exact same as in AWIL. I want diversity when I watch my werewolf movies.
And IMHO, Bad Moon had one of the greatest wolfs also.

I was happy with the werewolf in this movie, the were wolf in AWIL is the best, without a doubt.
it was a good suit dont hate.
shareI thought the werewolf looked really good, though, i would have preferred it reamain in ambiguity. The scariest things are the things that are left up to the imagination. Thats the way it is up until the end.
You see?! You meddling little sh!t!
Sorry guys, but I have to agree with rustedicons. During the scene where it gets the firework in the eye, the werewolf does look a bit like a bear. More from the reaction of the creature, I'd say, and the fact that compared to the Howling and American Werewolf in London had a lot more money than Silver Bullet for effects.
But hey, it's a small gripe. Look at the werewolves in the Howling sequels, for instance. They're terrible for the most part. But I don't care - I enjoy the Howling films.
The important thing is... did you enjoy the film?
If not, Don't watch it!

It looks like a guy in a bear costume. It looks better when they don't really show it that well.

thats what makes this movie a classic, there isn't any CGI to make this look like a video game. It was one of my favorite horror movies growing up (besides the original Halloween and Texas C.M.). It was just a fun movie.

I enjoyed the werewolf in this one, good lord, have you seen "Wolf"?
shareI was really disappointed in "Wolf"

As in the Jack Nicholson movie?
I loved it!
I thought they did a great job with the effects. Very old-school "Wolfman" feel to it. Fangs, extra hair, contact lenses, and claws.
It added to the thematic elements of the story. They weren't werewolves until the final transformation, when they became wolves. They were "wolfmen". Not the same thing.
In that movie the MAN was the creature to be feared. Manipulative, jealous, violent, greedy, dangerous. The wolf-aspect of their characterization merely brought an end to their inhibitions; brought about an honest acceptance and amplification of their true nature.
Which is why Jack Nicholson became so territorial, and why James Spader became possessive, lecherous, and a potential rapist.
The werewolf didn't look as creepy as the ones in AWIL or The Howling, but I think the story in Silver Bullet is way better, and that makes up for the ridiculousness of the "bulky bear" wolf. Besides, they were focusing too much on lore and there was really TOO MUCH plot in the other two. SB was a simple coming of age horror story, and more could people could relate to it. That makes it even scarier to me.
shareI wouldn't say strictly a bear, I'm guessing they tried to make the suit as close to the illustrations created by Bernie Wrightson for the novella's illustrations. Personally it's been my favourite werewolf up until Dog Soldiers came out and took a similar design and took it to the next level with full costumes. If you used one of those in Silver Bullet you would have an incredible Werewolf film.
And as great as the transformation sequence in American Werewolf is and don't get me wrong I love that film, it's a Dog really
