Why Do People Hate The Ending?

Just saw it today on TCM after having seen it at the cinema when it came out. WOW! I knew I liked the film but I didn't remember why! Everything is perfect, ending included. For those who like zombies and the 80s, it can't get any better than this. And consider, the Cold War only ended in 1989. If you know what the military can do nowadays, imagine what thhey would be willing to do then.

I love the ending! It tells us 'you are screwed'; there's no way to win against the zombies! Zombies being my favorite monster, I dislike hearing people disrespecting them saying they would be too easy to kill. We should have a healthy fear of them!

What I don't like about the ending is that is re-uses the exact same footage from earlier in the movie.

I know this is an old thread, but I am responding to it because it is on the main movie page. The OP has misinterpreted Ebert's review. He did not say the ending sucked, he said it had the obligatory horrible climax, meaning horrific things were happening.

The ending was good, just slightly too brief.
I was a little bit disapointed when the credits rolled up.
Seemed like it was cut short and followed by a quick recap of shots that were in the film earlier on

I love the movie and the ONLY reason why I dislike the end is due to sequel bait. I mean the shots were reused and then BAM sequels. Did we need those? No.

Anyone who dislikes the ending has horrible taste. The ending is incredible, absolutely brilliant. It's a major reason why the movie rules as much as it does. It is one of the greatest endings in movie history, top 10 at least.

I think the ending is quite good. While it would have been nice to see new material rather than a recycled shot, I like the idea that the military thinks it's solved everything with its drastic steps only to have started the cycle all over again.
