James Karen should have won an OSCAR for this movie

He is the heart and soul of the film. Every line a classic, every facial expression hilarious. With gestures flawlessly postured to match Chaplin's best. Born to do it.

I wholeheartedly agree. Karen's acting was definitley oscar worthy.
Every line he delivered was fantastic. Such a ham!! But a brilliant one!
As a matter of fact, I think this is probably one of the best acted horror films ever!!
James Karen, Thom Mathews, Clu Gulager, Don Calfa, and Miguel Nunez all gave outstanding performances. They all had great chemistry together.

The Cadaver scene when it's laying on the floor in the factory is probably one of the best scenes in any movie, ever. Just a feel-good hilarious fun scene to watch. Right when Burt was telling him the unlock code onwards.

James funniest part to me is something 99.99% of people don't even notice but always cracks me up. Next time you watch the movie wait for the part where Frank says to Burt "Why don't you open the door and find out" when they're talking about the corpse in the meat locker. Burt will say "That's alright Frank i'll take your word for it" while Frank turns to Freddy and starts nodding his head. When Frank gets done nodding his head at Freddy watch Frank, he'll totally turn his head, look straight into the camera, then throw his hand up to his face doing a facepalm like he's saying to himself oh *beep* i just ruined this long scene. He does it while Burt is delivering his "If it is a reanimated corpse we'll have to kill it" line. I guess noone noticed and James didn't say anything so they just kept on goin with the scene but there's no maybe he did or maybe didn't about it he straight up looks into the camera then does a facepalm to cover it up.

My favorite James Karen part was when he decides to call Burt about "the little problem". The way he prepares himself to calm down is funny.

reply

i agree, that's absolutely my favorite James Karen part! that thing he does with his hands is just hysterical!

"will someone tell that mime to shut up?"

reply

Freddie: "What're we gonna do?!!?"

Frank: "(panicky) I don't kn-..(calms down) we'll call the boss."

(Composes himself, dials Burt)

"....Burrrt? Frank. We have a lil bit of a problem."

*Zombie screams in background*

....he turned it around. He brought us back from the brink. His name is Connor...John Connor."

reply

"Ohhh! I don't know if I can do this, Bert!"

"Be a man Frank, be a man!"

---
"I learned that in prison, you like? You white trash piece-a sh!t."

reply

James Karen steals the movie! He did a pretty good job in this one!

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

reply

Freddy: I think...I think I'm gonna be sick-

Burt: <violent upchuck noise>

reply

"Hell, no these things were made by the U.S. Army CORPS OF ENGINEERS!"

*SLAP, tank cracks

"OH FVCK!!"

reply

"James Karen steals the movie!"

It's his movie, no need for him to steal it.

@ gregorik - Regarding J.K. you wrote, "It's his movie, no need for him to steal it."
No, ROTLD is a classic ensemble movie. Karen is not the protagonist.

reply

" Gotta call the boss. Gotta call Burt."

The over dramatic way he rushes outside to be sick is priceless!
