Why did this movie copy music from Psycho?

I don't mean to give Re Animator a hard time with the music, but personally I think it's laziness from a low budget movie. Nothing more.

Of course everybody would realise it was the Psycho music. There's no trying to trick people and take credit. I think the point was to simply get some "cheap" music that worked.

Well what are the use of my brains if I'm tied up with a dumb cluck like you?

What's the big deal? Bernard Herrmann's brilliant score was, shall we say, re-animated. If he had any objections, they would have come from beyond.

i liked the soundtrack too

The music was fantastic! 😎

Imagine if they copied the music from Dawn of the Dead.

For people saying like a "direct lift" from psycho, ITS NOT! it does borrow heavily from it as a sort of homage and honestly I think it fits perfect with the subject, but its certainly not exactly the same. play both back to back, NOT the same thing, just similiar sounds is all. I loved it!

I love this film, but I still don't understand why they weren't sued for the theme.

It goes way past 'homage' to me (to the point of 'gimmie a break').

Wait a minute... who am I here?

You people are ridiculous saying 1.) Bernard Hermann should get royalties 2.) The "Psycho" theme doesn't work with "Re-Animator" or 3.) Boo-hoo, it's a rip-off, and that's unfair 'cause "Psycho" is like "The" classic horror movie, even though it's not even frightening. No, "Psycho" is a thriller, definitely not in the horror genre.

It ought to be crystal clear that the theme was meant to sound like the "Psycho" theme. It was meant to be noticeable. Not only that, it's meant to be comical without other cues to the audience. I am with those who say it works better in "Re-Animator."

Since many people seem to be whining about the fact that something was "stolen" from "Psycho," for the record, Brian DiPalma, excellent director he may be, has ripped off Hitchcock countless times. Look at his several thrillers which are direct rip-offs of "Rear Window," "Vertigo," and other films. He used part of the "Psycho" theme in "Carrie."

He even accomplished the miraculous feat of reproducing a "shower scene" in "Scarface," albeit with an insane Columbian with a chainsaw opposed to a crossdressing, woman-killer pussy. DiPalma may call these "homages." I agree with Tarantino that it's just plain stealing. Stop trying to sugar-coat it. Even so, if you're going to steal someone's art, at least do something better or interesting with it.

I believe that was done with the "Re-Animator" theme. It would not be the movie it is without that theme. Whether you want to cavil over words such as "homage," "rip-off," or "theft," well, that is petty and not my concern. What concerns me is whether something better or interesting was done. I firmly believe it was.
