Is Rambo II the greatest action movie ever made?
It's just so perfect as an action film. And at around 90 minutes it never wears out its welcome.

shareThe first one is better than this movie. But you use the word "action," and the first Rambo flick had more drama / social commentary on war.
shareYes, most agree that First Blood is a better movie, and that's due to the drama. I don't disagree, but I'm not asking what the best Rambo movie is. Action movie is the key.
I think Rambo II does everything right, the look, the pace, music and sound fx, length of film etc... This just nails what an action movie should be. Predator is another one.
Maybe not the greatest but it’s definitely up there.
shareFirst Blood, The Terminator, Aliens, Robocop, Predator, Die Hard, Total Recall Terminator 2, and Face/Off were all better.
sharenah , the song as the credits roll loses it some points.
Agreed....it perfected the genre (and laid the blueprint for many other action movies to come....streamlined to perfection in terms of pacing and editing) just like Mad Max 2 and The Terminator had done before. It's a shame that it's largely viewed upon as just a mere sequel. If you haven't watched it in a while, do so immediately and take note of the cinematography, pacing, music and editting (they're awesome)
Die Hard would come along, but had more 'thriller' elements to it, to be classed as an outright 'action' movie.
Personally, I've never been too impressed with either 'Robocop' (one of Verhoeven's worst IMO) 'Aliens' or 'Terminator 2' (when the FX overtook the story) or Speed (with it's boring leads)
'Commando' was a game attempt (but a bit too humerous and hokey)
But 'Rambo-First Blood Part II' (whilst not as good a 'movie' as 'First Blood') is shot, acted, edited, paced and timed for maximum excitement (with rarely a dull, uneventful scene to be found)
Lean and Mean.
