Do you think that there still are american POWS in Nam ?
In some way I think there still are some POWS in Vietnam/ Laos, maybee the US goverment knows it but can't do nothing about it, so they keep it under the carpet.

shareNo, there are no POW's left. Seeing how the war ended in 1975 that would mean that their captors would have kept them for 36 years after the end of the war. Nobody is going to do that. It's a pain in the ass to keep a secret prison hidden in the jungle for that long. I'm sure there were many prisoners at the end of the war. By now they've all been let go, killed or died from their conditions.
Well I hope that is right, but there are still some that don't know for sure the fate of their son, M.I.A/P.O.W. From what I have read, there are some people that still look for their loved ones and the issue is being debated from time to time in the media.
shareIt's widely believed that there were US POWs still being held in Vietnam, Laos, etc as late as the early 1980s. There have been rumors that the CIA actually located one of the camps and was preparing to go in with Delta when some idiot news camera happy ex Special Forces commander named Bo Gritz brought too much media attention.
Read about it in Eric Haney's book Inside Delta Force. They were alerted for at least 2 missions in the early/mid 1980s before they were canceled at the last minute. It's available on Amazon and I am sure you can find it at Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if there had been some at some stage. But it was so long ago. They'd either have been given back by now or just have died and been secretly buried. There were so many bereaved families who never found closure because their missing sons simply vanished, that a POW dream was something they clung to. But keeping POW's after hostilities have ended would be counter-productive. Their only value would be in exchange and barter.
Today Vietnam is quite `open' about many aspects of the war. There are even guided tours of the remaining tunnels for the adventurous. Many Americans take holidays and make pilgrimages there.
I don't believe that there are any at this point in time. I did read that many were transported to gulags in the former Soviet Union.
shareUtter nonsense BPD1586
The Vietnamese didn't like neither the Chinese nor the Soviets very much and as far as they saw it, it was a victory for the Vietnamese people. The Soviets themselves had absolutely no use for some prisoners which were being held in Vietnam. Besides it makes infinitely more sense for the Vietnamese to use their prisoners to re-build their own country.
Gulags were almost solely for Soviet "criminals", and not even German prisoners of war (in WW2) were ever held for more than 6-7 years after which they were allowed to return to Germany.
Sorry, you gulag story makes absolutely no sense.
The Vietnamese were friendly with the Russians, and in this movie, they showed up very quickly after Rambo was captured. What more proof do you need?
shareI don't think any are left. I suspect that the remaining MIAs were probably killed in action or captivity and buried without being counted. Some were probably captured, interrogated and killed. Maybe a few of them deserted and died somewhere. If any actually survived the end of the war, they probably died shortly thereafter. What good were they as secret prisoners after the war was over?
shareAs others have said, its pretty likely that there were when First Blood Part II was made... but it seems pretty far-fetched today.
shareI remember watching a show like 'In seach of', that had a vietnam pow episode, they interviewed guys that deserted & stayed in vietnam. I wonder if any ex-pows were released, but not given a way to get home. How long was the us embassy closed their, 10 yrs?
shareI firmly believe that there are thousands of POWs still being held in labor camps in Vietnam, and we should launch a full scale invasion to bring them back. But seriously, if that were true, could you imagine the culture shock for those guys?
"My girlfriend sucked 37 d*cks!"
"In a row?"
no there is no hard evidence, also usa and china are friends in many respects especially economically

I doubt there are any in Vietnam as of today. The country has changed alot since that time, and as others have said, keeping POWs secret over such long time doesnt make much sense. North Korea on the other hand...

Not anymore but in the 80s, there were lots of POWs still in Vietnam. The movie, Missing in Action with Chuck Norris fully documented these accounts
