I was at the Rib-America Fest in St. Louis last night, and Pat Benetar was performing, and before she sang "Invincible", she told us that it was from "one of the worst movies ever made". Is it really? Haha.
************************************ "This is no mine. It's a tomb."
In my opinion, the movie is corny. Yes, I am old so I still use that word. I only watch it because I'm from Corpus and it always gives me a good laugh!
Billie Jean isn't the best movie of all time, but it's great uplifting fun, with a powerful and unforgettable theme song.
It makes me very sad to know that Pat Benatar has disowned the movie like this. Only now am I getting to know her music, but I can truly tell my motivation for it has faded.
I would not be the least bit surprised if the reason the movie hasn't been released on DVD in all this time is because Pat Benatar refuses to allow her song on the DVD release. That happens A LOT with DVD releases (songs having to be changed because of copyright issues). And in the case with this movie? It would totally F it up not to have that song in it, seeing as how it's the main theme for the whole damn movie.
True that, Dangerouswomen. Some of the best scenes in the movie are Billie Jean being all tough and the guitar coming in to that song.
Whateva, Pat. You can hate the movie, but if you're the reason it's not being released, just get over it! It's not like she has to watch it again.
Some friends of mine saw her recently, actually, when she was on tour with Blondie. She apparently seemed like she didn't want to be there. Maybe she's over her 80's stuff in general.

Wow. Calm down, maybe. You're jumping down Pat Benatar's throat over speculation by someone on imdb. We don't know why this movie's never been released on DVD.
As for Pat Benatar's opinion of this movie, it's possible she says it in jest. It's possible she means it. She's allowed to be wrong about it. :)
And for the poster whose mother called her 'the screamer', Pat Benatar has never screamed. Never. Her voice is pretty near operatic. In fact, according to her Wikipedia page (usual disclaimer here) her early musical training was strictly classical and theatrical. That person's mother is allowed to be wrong, too. ;)

Calm down? I don't really think I need to do that. Mostly was joking, actually. Maybe you shouldn't read so much into things?
I don't know for sure that she's the reason it's not released, but she should get over it if she is. That's all I was saying. I don't care how she feels about the movie other than that.
It's not the worst film. It's entertaining in a way, I'll give it that. But it's absolutely absurd, impossible to take seriously. Even the simplistic "fair is fair" battlecry is ripe for mockery.
Simplistic battle cries are the best! First of all, they're kids, so let's keep the dialogue plain and simple and realistic. Second of all... who goes into battle yelling out some complicated and detailed slogan? :P How would that rally anyone to fight?
If you're saying that the concept of demanding to be treated fairly... is "ripe for mockery"... well maybe the world has become that cynical, but it's too bad. I'd rather watch an uplifting movie like Billie Jean.
Watching Helen Slater in new ABC Family show ('The Lying Game'), all these years later, thinking about her career, directing, acting, and thinking about this movie, which I loved, I search for a DVD only to find there still is none, and since so many times the music rights are what holds up productions of DVDs, I have to wonder is Pat Benatar to blame? I love her song, but wow, to dis the movie, so unfair to its fans.
