Why do you like this film?

I remember someone posted about three years ago on here talking about how when you put the disc in, it's like your traveling back to.....something. I can't recall, but it seems that fans of this movie have a lot of passion, and I've always admired that, so I'd love to read why you like this film.

I love this film. I think the biggest reason is because it was a fun film to watch. Just like Smokey and the Bandit in the '70s, this film didn't take itself too seriously and was just a lot of fun.

Plus it is a great window to the '80s. I started that decade just as I hit my teen years and I look back on it with fond memories.

Of course, my favorite character was SHO'NUFF!!! Julius Carry's portrayal was spot on. He was not outrageous but just over-the-top enough to steal every scene he was in.

"Kiss my Converse!" -Sho'nuff: The Shogun of Harlem.

It makes me smile. It reminds me of the magic of movies and what you said about feeling like you are being taken back...yeah that kind of stuff.

I was 12 when this came out and was pretty sure I was going to be a ninja when I grew up. We would stay up late on weekend nights to watch the dubbed kung-fu movies every weekend (they came on either right before or after G.L.O.W, loved it). This was definetley one of our favorite movies and I was lucky enough to catch it on cable last night.

The music and the whole cast.

I downloaded the soundtrack and it still makes me smile :)

The Glow

To reach that upper level
Your mind, body and soul must be one

It's a sacrifice
It takes hard work
It's a way of life
When you got the glow
You feel the one (You feel the one)
When you got the glow
Your body's gold (Your body's gold)
So don't let go

I know this is an old thread but I was just recently given this movie on blu ray as a gift. I was born in '85, so I watched it after the fact but I remember watching this as a kid over and over again and loving it. I think I first saw it at 5 or 6, at my grandmom's house, crowded around a little TV with my cousins, watching a good old VHS tape. I've seen it many times over the years and I've always loved the fights, the music, ShoNuff (who was scary to me as a kid, but is now hilarious) and Vanity (who was probably one of my earliest crushes). Now, I just like the 80s-ness of it. 80s cult movies like Last Dragon, Highlander, The Warriors (yes I know it's '79) just have a special place in my heart.
