The MPAA butchered this movie
More so than any other movie in the series. All the deaths are quick cuts

shareI would've loved to see Violet's original death....she was supposed to be doing scissor exercises and the Jason imposter was going to machete her between legs which I thought would've been awesome. her death in the final cut looks too jumpy

shareYeah. I noticed alot of the deaths are really quick....and you don't even see Jason's mask until much later....how lame....though I did like this film

They should have gone for an anal stabbing.
shareI personally think the MPAA butchers a lot of movies !!!
shareMakes me mad how much this and the new blood got butchered when you see some of the stuff they allow today (And even at the time). The main draw of the Friday the 13th movies is the body count. We want to see people slaughtered in inventive ways. I love this movie, but the butchering it took and the uncut footage that we will likely never see pisses me off. Thanks MPAA.
shareI've seen a screen shot from this movie of the guy being decapitated on the moped that doesn't appear in the film.
It would've gone after the machete shot but before the falling head shot.
I'll try to find whatever book or magazine I saw it in..
I believe that picture was actually on the back of the VHS box oddly enough :/.
shareI think I remember seeing that shot in an issue of fangoria.
shareIndeed they screwed the film.
shareThis film has a good atmosphere and like Part 6, I find these 2 sequels just about survive the MPAA butchering. Part 7 was more noticeable and I would say this is the most hacked up one, along with Part 2; but that one is a goody also.

It's damned if they do, damned if they don't. All that footage gone to waste because an X would limit distribution. If profit is not your sole priority, release it "unrated" and let it find it's way to viewers.
share'X' would have been box office suicide though in the US, and many exhibitors would have been contracted to not screen films with this rating. In other countries, where they don't have issues restricting movies to audiences over certain ages, their own censorship board would have made any excision decisions. It's a pity that they couldn't release the uncut versions internationally, or perhaps the cost of producing different versions would have been too high.
