i just gave it a ten. probs worth a 6.8 to 7.5 then add a point or two for the 80s. so much holding a movie back in those days. then i added the sum to make ten cos its currently way below what it should be. its on freeview right now in the uk and takes me back to my childhood in australia, watching this with my brothers and sisters. good times. Can i go back please?

Awesome post, dude. This movie was one I watched with my brother and sisters as well during childhood. You're right, it's one of the films where it is about a 7 or 8 but then because it's got that awesome 80s vibe it raises the score to a straight 10. The scenes at the end with the Blackbird are just bad ass to the power ten.

Can i go back please?

Sadly the 80s were just kinda different for movies. They seemed to sum up that way of life in general. I'm only old enough to remember from around 87 onwards, but it did feel like a special time for everything - life, good times etc. Life was more simple but more enjoyable than now I think. It definitely was a golden age for fans of pop culture.

Only just seen D.A.R.Y.L. for the first time.
Seen lots of 80s films but not this one.
Was on Sony Movie Channel here and really liked it.
I gave it a 7 out of 10.
Think I will get this on DVD to.

I remember this being on cable a lot on the early 90's, but can't recall if I ever saw the whole thimg.

First thing I thought when I saw the rating. This was one of the sweetest family movies of the 80's. It will obviously seem dated today, but you have to take that into account. The theme song at the end over the credits is a great song too today.

It's insane, yes.

I was around in the '80s but didn't see the film then, so I have no nostalgic feeling for it.

And I hated most of the stuff in the '80s because I found so much of it loud, self-conscious and obviously something that wouldn't stand the test of time once the '80s Kool-aid had been drunk and urinated away, certainly gadget-y stuff.

That said, having seen it the other night for the first time, I thought D.A.R.Y.L. was a much more solid film than the IMDb rating would suggest.

And it didn't have that cheese-crap tone that so much '80s stuff did.

It's currently (April, 2015) at 6.1, but it has a 6.6 arithmetic mean, which may actually be the truest score.

It was originally panned by Leonard Maltin, but ET Tonight's poll at the same time found a much more positive assessment from the movie-going public: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMXgL7I1mT0

409 IMDb 19-29 year olds give it an 8.0!

3 IMDb Staff members give it a 7.3.

179,000+ Netflix viewers give is a 3.5/5, which translates to a 7/10 on IMDb's scale.

I grew up on it, thought it was so so then, pretty lame watching it now, and I'm not just saying that because of the dated tech, in fact I actually love watching that stuff, seeing old computers and games and remembering how awesome and advanced it seemed then.

Fact is this is just a boring story, the mother was downright dreadful, whining all the time because DARYL was a good kid, I can honestly say, I have never in my life wished a kid would misbehave, what kind of stupid crap is that?

So you’re rating the film on the basis of how much you liked it as. child, but you are now an adult. Your values have changed. Please explain this reasoning to me. BTW, “nostalgia” ONLY means “fondness for home.” Yes, the word is constantly mis-used, but ignorance does not change its meaning. If you did not live in this movie, you cannot be nostalgic for it.
