"Trainspotting" springs to mind
Reminds me of Richard Linklater and the Before Sunrise trilogy. We basically have that idea with Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), and Before Midnight (2013). We catch up with Jesse and Celine every 9 years.
I don't know if those BC sequels would've been plausible though. Why would they get back together after 10 years? They just feel like calling each other up? I heard in the supposed sequel that they would be in college, but 10 years is way later than their college years.
My own friend group from high school is all scattered across the nation. There's no reason for us to get back together. I mean maybe it will happen one day, but people lose track of each other after high school. People also change a lot. I've changed since high school.
If you ever delve deep into the workings of John Hughes you'll see that he often burned bridges for fairly weak reasons.
