omg i miss these shows so much. i brought over my dvds of rescue rangers to my 7 year old cousin, and he thought they were lame and cheesy, but liked it at the same time.
the shows on disney are absolute sh*t compared to back then. if the kids who are obsessed with high school musical and other stupid crap like that could have been exposed to good quality tv shows like we all were (gummi bears, care bears, fraggles, etc...all things that had morals and lessons and were made for more than just OO SHINY COLORS) maybe we wouldnt have as many 11 yr olds walking around in whorey clothes and acting like skanks. idk, just my 2 cents!

love is what i do

reply

Don't forget Pound Puppies! I loved that show!

Okay, let's see, when we were little and first got the Disney channel, we, or rather I watched:

Gummi Bears
Dumbo's Circus
Donald Duck's Quack Attack
Mickey Mouse Tracks
Goof Troop
Darkwing Duck
Dinosaurs
Gargoyles
Ducktales
Fraggle Rock
Vault Disney
Zorro
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers

as well as all the miscellaneous, unsorted original old Walt Disney cartoons from the 30's, 40's, and 50's.

Oh yeah, and somebody previously on here mentioned Mickey's Mousercise? I remember that...we had gotten one episode on tape and nobody could figure out how because when we found it on the tape, we all wondered 'what's that? where'd that come from?' But I would exercise to that tape just about every day or every other day for about 3 years...so yeah, if they would do that again today, that would work with kids.

And people have mentioned, when you're little you imitate what you watch, I know that's for sure...I used to think it would be SO cool to be like the boys from Ducktales or Max from Goof Troop...and there was one episode where Max's older cousin Debbie comes to town and she turned out to be really cool with a cool car...and she wore like blue jeans, a denim jacket, an orange top and these really tall high tops, and I wanted to dress like that, and on an episode of Ducktales, the boys were break dancing to entertain pirates, and I tried to do what they did.

And for a few years, it used to be that every 4th of July, they would have a marathon of all the old Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck/Goofy cartoons, and every Halloween they'd show Disney's Halloween Treat, the extended version, the kind that you CAN'T get on tape or DVD unless it's a burnt copy...and they had the Great Bear Scare, and Halloween episodes of every show they had on the air at the time...that was great stuff, you don't get that kind of entertainment anymore and it is a REAL shame.

I've missed a lot of Disney shows, but when I read this thread, I couldn't believe just how much I really did miss them!! Disney really has gone bad.

I used to watch heaps of

Gummi Bears
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
Gargoyles
Quack Pack
Duck Tales

Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.

reply

The last time I checked, which was like two months ago, Toon Disney still plays Gargoyles, so there is a bit of hope still left =D but that’s it … stupid Disney …

I Just recently thought of two other shows I loved to watch on Disney Channel of Yesteryear the australian produced OCEANGIRL and SPELLBINDER those in my opinion were great show's and disney channel cancelled them both even though they had a loyal fan-base. Does anyone else remember these show's least we should forget what disney channel once was.

Indeed...let's face it, in the early to mid 90's, Disney knew VERY WELL what they were doing. THESE DAYS, they don't have a clue, they'll sell any show for money. They need to come out with a CLASSIC Disney channel that shows all the older stuff, anybody agree?

reply

[deleted]

Indeed, I mean we want Gummi Bears, and Goof Trop, and Ducktales, and Darkwing Duck, and Dumbo's Circus, and all the old cartoons with Mickey and Goofy and Donald, and Zorro and Spin and Marty, and all the old shows they'd put on late at night in Vault Disney....there's one I'd like to find out what it was, all I remember is several kids had a bet about staying the night in a spooky house. One kid's foot went through the stair, they found a lot of money, and a man there who faints at the sight of a nosebleed, and when they came back the next day the man was gone and had taken the money to the police. I would've liked to have found out what that show was.

Yea it's sad what has happend to these channels. I wathced a few shows on disney, like.....

The Gummi Bears
Winnie The Pooh
The Little Mermaid
Aladdin
Talespin
Chip & Dale
Goof Troop
Ducktales
Darkwing Duck
Even Stevens
Lizzie Maguire

But I was really a Nickolodeon person. I liked the shows like.......

Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
The Secret World Of Alex Mac
Pete & Pete
GUTS
Legends Of The Hidden Temple
Figure It Out
Keenen And Kel
All That
Rugrats (The original ones, not the "All Grown Up" Crap they have now).
Get The Picture

I know that there was more shows, but sadly i've forgotten them.

But now we have crap on t.v. like.......

spongebob squarepants
the fairly odd parents
ed edd n' eddie
cow and chicken
camp lazlo
life with derek
naturaly sadie

None of these shows really have any thought put into it like the older shows did.

I watched pretty much every Disney show but here are my favorites:

Gummi Bears
Care Bears
Tale Spin
Goof Troop
Darkwing Duck
Bonkers
Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers
My Little Pony
Duck Tales
Winnie the Pooh
Brotherly Love(I know it's not a cartoon but it was still a great show)

They don't make cartoons or family comedies like they used to anymore. The Disney Channel is really crappy now & the only shows they're keeping on their line-up from the '90s are Sister,Sister & The Little Mermaid.

I LOVED ALL THOSE SHOWS! I cant stand the way Disney channel is today. All though i like Hannah Montana.Shes cool. But still I really prefer Disney Channel from the 80s-90s any day!

reply

Fraggle Rock was on HBO, lots of you are saying it was on Disney. Actually, I think a large number of the shows being mentioned here weren't on the Disney Channel (not that it really matters, but it is the thread title).

As for the movies, there was another period when Disney movies were crap too, and then things got better for a while starting with The Little Mermaid. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney movies make a comeback again at some point.

::sigh:: I miss the good old days so much! New DC today sux! all it is is HSM garbage! im so sick of it!

reply

HSM doesn't bother me, Doodlebops bother me!!

When I was in the hospital a year ago, I couldn't sleep one night so I had the tv on when the Doodlebops came on and I was like "What the hell is this??"

Blue clowns and insomnia do not make a good combo!

When I was very little my family didn't have the Disney channel on television. I remember going to my grandmother's house and watching her television and being excited because she actually had it. This was where I watched the Gummi Bears. I also remember a show about Alice in Wonderland but I don't remember what it was called. Oh, and Fraggle Rock :)

A few years later when we actually got the Disney channel I remember watching Growing Pains, A LOT. Later on I watched Brotherly Love and Boy Meets World. That's about it for Disney. Sometimes when my little brother is watching the Disney channel I'll look at the shows and be like, "Gee, that exact same plotline and those exact same jokes were on _____." Nothing is original anymore.

I know that when I have children of my own I will be buying the DVD of Gummi Bears and other shows and allowing my children to watch that instead of whatever is on TV at the time. I can only hope they love it as much as I did :)

A little aside

I used to watch under the umbrella tree when I was younger.
My mom didn't leave her job early enough to get me home to watch the back to school special.

To this day, I am mad.
How silly is that?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Dinosaurs.

Why can't the Disney Channel make a new station that only plays old cartoons. I would give up Discovery Health to watch it. Seriously, I think Disney Channel now with Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, and all the others, is becomimg more of a pre-VH1 & MTV than anything. It's heartbreaking. :/

I agree!! I HATE THOSE SHOWS SO MUCH!! I'm getting sick & tired of the Jonas Brothers too! URGH! I don't know why girls scream and stuff! IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE! I cant stand their music!

Muppets Tonight, my ass! All those other shows you listed were way much better than that! Including another short-lived Jim Henson show I remember called "The Secret Life of Toys," a show that precedes Toy Story about a group of children's toys who come to life, once their senile teddy bear leader Balthazar says, "All clear, everyone. They're gone!" The other five main characters were Rugby, the plush tiger toy with a strange accent that sounds a bit French and a "deductrable" tail; Raisin, a tomboyish doll; Ditz, a clown toy; Mew, a mouse toy for cats; and Hortense the rocking horse. There were other regular characters in that show like the Bunny Lamp, and "Uncle" Gerry the extremely humble tiger who was the complete opposite of the plush Rugby. The brother and sister kids who had the toys got Gerry from their Uncle Martin, so I'm not sure why they wanted to call him "Uncle Gerry" instead of "Uncle Martin." Why Gerry instead of Martin? Anyway, this definitely doesn't beat pre-Elmo Sesame Street, but it's better than not only the last 26 years of Sesame Street, but Muppets Tonight especially. Of course, I do know The Secret Life of Toys was preceded with "The Christmas Toy," which featured Kermit the Frog as Santa Claus, but I wouldn't watch that because of Kermit. But I did like the Secret Life of Toys, even though Pixar went farther with Toy Story, and its sequel.
You see, I liked most of those shows and think they're all better than what's on Disney Channel now, and at the moment I'm watching High School Musical 2 to see for myself how baldy the Disney Channel has become. But I hate the Muppets, not just Muppets Tonight, but The 1976 Muppet Show, because they bring back bad memories of my not-so-much-of-a-childhood! I wished I could have gotten tickets for the audience that the Muppeteers of Muppets Tonight filmed their show and heckled the Muppeteers enough to give them all a nervous breakdown and halt production. I know that Muppets Tonight only lasted a year, and Frank Oz and Jerry Nelson had since moved on, but they continued with new people and remaining Muppeteers Dave Goelz (Gonzo), Steve Whitmire (Kermit and Rizzo), Bill Baretta (Pepe), and Kevin "Elmo" Clash (Clifford, another bad character by Clash). And with not only Oz and Nelson retired, but Jim Henson himself dead since 1990, and Richard Hunt (Scotter, Janice, Beaker, Statler, Sweetums), I'm pretty sure the Muppets have gone to a nadir, and if someone can trick Goelz, Whitmire, Baretta, and Clash to leave, we can end this. And it was Clash's character Elmo that made Sesame Street jump the shark years ago.
Have any of you been in the studio audience when Muppets Tonight was filmed. I know that, because how hard it is to play certain assigned Muppets at the same time would take one sketch or number at a time, it never was filmed live, but pre-recorded before it aired. But did any of you sit in the studio in a manner like Saturday Night Live, which I think at some point was pre-recorded. Also, you might know that before the 1976 Muppet show, Jim Henson had some adult-oriented Muppets appear at times in the first season of SNL in 1975-76. But did any of you sit in the studio while the show was pre-recorded?

I really wish they would release the rest of the disney stuff on dvd or make another channel for them to be on, hell I would pay for the channel just to get back my old shows, classic, quality disney shows.
Tales from Avonly was a great show my gran and I use to watch it.
I thought Falicity was so prety lol.
Also what happened to the episodes is that Disney has the 65 episode rule which it almost always follows. I wish they knew that this rule kills them with the audience. I would love to work for their marketing dept. I would show them all how to prepare a dvd and deck it out. I wouldn't dare let a dvd go onto the market unless it had a few features on it like interviews with artist and producers if that is possible. Also I would give galleries and deleted scenes and missing episodes if I could. But there are a ton of shows and specials that disney had on that I loved, such as

JungleCubs
Aladdin
Hercules
Little Mermaid
Magical World of Disney on Sunday Nights
Under the Umbrella Tree
Wuzzles
Gummi Bears
Dumbo's Circus
Welcome to PoohCorner
Care Bears and My Little Pony were awesome
Muppet Show was nice.
Concerts in the Park(90's thing)
Tales from Avonly
VAULT DISNEY
Disney Music time commercials, showing songs from new and classic disney films.
New adventures of winnie the pooh
there are so many more and I need coffee to get my brain going to think.
Well these are some of what I remember. Oh also I remember on new years eve Disney would have a HUGE BASH and air it on Disney Channel with Tink Sliding down and fire works going off and bringing in NewYears. Every Year they had this up until around 1996-97 when Disney became a regular channel with commercials, that is another reason why we have commercials on disney channel right now because it is no longer a private company with private sponsers like you and I. To have Disney through TCI cable in the 80's was just around 30-40 extra on our cable bill, and if you didn't have it you were treated to it a couple times a year and offered a subscript for so much for the year or so many months with a beautiful gift like this little mermaid calendar or Disney Channel wall clock lol.
Represenatives are standing by.LMBO

I wonder why they don't show movies like splash/splash too if they're blaming nudity then why did they show it in the first place and if they're sooooo bothered why don't they edit the bad parts out
Leave a warning etc due to inconvience parts of this film must be edited etc
People will then think to download it or find it on youtube

Aside from the Gummi Bears and Carebears, I was really into Ready or Not, Flash Forward, The Torkelsons, and Anne of Green Gables. Whenever Anne of GG came on, forget it, I wasn't doing anything or going ANYWHERE...

I blame Disney's demise on the fact that it turned to regular cable. It was way better quality when you had to pay for it...So Weird and Even Stevens being an exception...
