I couldn't agree with everyone more. I didn't have the Disney channel growing up because my parents couldn't aford it, but we did have those occasional week long free previews. With my sister and me, this was a major event, almost like it was our birthday. Now I can barely stomach 5 minutes of the channel. The only positive I can say is with all these shows coming on DVD, we can introduce our children and others to these great shows and show them that what they have now is junk. I recently babysat for my best friend's son. I took over my completely goofy collection and my classic Chip N' Dale DVD. He loved them. He constantly asks me to bring Chip N' Dale over. Once rescue rangers came out I let him borrow that and he loved it just as much. It just goes to show what wonderful cartoons these were.
In addition, with all the talk about what TV shows are teaching our kids now, it's amazing hollywood doesn't look back to the 80's to see how they can satisfy parents and kids. Examples: Someone mentioned Mousercise, which I completely forgot about until they mentioned it. With all the talk of child obescity (sp?) I'm suprised someone at Disney hasn't said let's bring this back. I was never a big fan of exercising, but I got up and moved when that show came on. Someone mentioned the morals of the Gummi Bears, Ducktales, etc. I would also like to add, although not Disney, He-man and G. I. Joe. Everyone talks about morals, but these shows said if you don't get it in the show, we will make sure you have it at the end. Disney always seemed alot better at showing the morals within the show. Either way you got stuff like, fight only if you absolutely must [Gummi Bears bouncing over an Ogres head, hitting their back and knocking them over to escape], the Golden Rule [remember the episode of Ducktales where scrooge looses his money and then has to get help from those that he ignored when he had money], family relationships [Max and Goofy in Goof Troop], etc. I could go on and on, but all of you seem to remember. Like has been said before, I wish there was something we could do, but unless we do something like a massive demonstration on the Washington DC Mall, it seems no ones going to listen.
