Julie McCullough was ADORABLE!
Julie McCullough was adorable and should never have been written of this show!

Blame Kirk Cameron.
shareYeah. His over zealous, prejudice 'Christian' ideals got her fired.
My main question is always this: if Jesus could forgive and hang out with Mary Magdalin, why couldn't he deal with the fact that she used to be a Playboy girl, hmm? Is he BETTER than Jesus? Hypocrite!
I and all my friends used to LOVE Kirk, AND Candice. We don't like either one of them now. Kirk lost over 20 fans, doing that. And he NEVER apologized; but he made HER apologize to HIM in the show when her character 'made good' with Mike. Julie was a better match for Mike than Kate. Kate was a bitch.
On top of everything else, why did Kirk's religious awakening have to come over into Mike? Mike was always a playboy. He brought THREE GIRLS to the Winter formal for God's sakes! Is Kirk Cameron such a bad actor that he has to act as himself, or he can't play the part correctly? And does that mean that he, IRL, is a habitual liar? I miss the old Mike that wouldn't have ended up completely henpecked by his wife. And I STILL think he would have adopted, because Mike was a good hearted person.
Interestingly enough, as I've seen her playboy, she was ugly as hell in it. I dunno how they managed to ruin someone as gorgeous as her... but they did.
She was adorable in Growing Pains though!

Totally agree.

And does that mean that he, IRL, is a habitual liar? One of Cameron's more recent escapades includes printing and distributing material about Charles Darwin that would be said to cross the line between insult and slander. That is, if Cameron had any idea that there was such a line.

Well, you can always take comfort in the fact that Cameron is aging terribly. He's 41 but looks close to 50.
shareI recall on an entertainment show, it was mentioned years ago. Is that why she was written off? I know Kirk is conservative theological wise, but I don't think he is a fanatic. At least I hope not. I recall Julie playing a student teacher or tutor I believe.
shareSee my comment further down for the real reason she was fired.
shareJulie and Mike were the best! If Kirk were truly a good Christian, he would have wanted her to have a good job, and opportunities for a nice life, outside playboy. Instead he ruined he career, and really gave her no choice, but to be the playboy girl. Which is sad. She was beautiful and talented, would have loved to see her career thrive. Kate wa boring, and her character was way more adult and sultry, than Julie.
shareThe character of Julie was adorable, I agree.
Regardless of the reason, however, I'm glad their engagement/marriage was written out of the story and that he eventually met Kate. Julie and Mike were way too young, unprepared and immature for such a big life change, IMO.
With Julie, it was a very sweet but young relationship, very idealistic, always making kissy cutesy faces at eachother with sappy dreamy eyed moments. It was a fun relationship, Mike's first serious one, for sure, but not very grounded for long-term. I think most people that have watched the show can relate, having had *that* relationship before they finally met their husband/wife.
Personally, as a kid, I preferred Kate's character more. She was gorgeous, intelligent, sophisticated, mature and I loved the interplay between her and Kirk. It was hilarious and heartwarming watching him attempt to be more responsible, grown up, and get his life together -- impressing her with his actions, not just his face and charm.
It seemed to disappoint many viewers, but Mike had to grow up sometime, he sure couldn't remain a boyishly charming player the rest of his life. I, for one, was glad he changed his ways. He was still cute and charming, just not a goof-off "playboy" anymore, and that (for me) was a good thing.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

According to Kirk Cameron, he had nothing to do with Julie McCullough leaving, that was purely a decision made by the producers and he had no say in the matter. I guess it's a case of he said/she said.
I really did like the character of Julie and was disappointed with how she left but that being said, I actually didn't like Mike once he was in a relationship with either Julie or Kate. With Julie, he was mushy and cringeworthy and with Kate, he became so BORING! I preferred single Mike, as he was a lot more fun and outgoing.
I must say regarding a previous poster's comment on Kirk's looks, I actually think he is aging quite well. He looks pretty much the same now as he did back then.
"When we make mistakes, it's evil. When God makes mistakes, it's nature."
I stopped watching the show once she left. I wanted to see them get married.
shareI saw him in a YouTube video with his wife, he is beginning to show his age now, but still looks nice. He turned 50 this year.
shareI am Catholic and I preferred Julie by a lot.

Still is adorable.
shareMichael J Fox was a good actor on Family Ties, he had not finished high school, was a heavy partier---but played strait laced Alex P Keaton who obtained high grades and graduated from college.
Oh and cameron never had multi movie deals STILL being played to this day.
THAT is talent!!
Unfortunately it is a sad reality in life. The choices we make do determine our futures. A person makes questionable choices, they may come back to bite you when you least expect it. Maybe it was wrong to put on pressure to make them give her the axe, and maybe not. But I think its a safe bet when someone poses for a pornographic magazine, one can expect the potential backlash if they are seeking employment with a company geered towards children or younger adults.
"My main question is always this: if Jesus could forgive and hang out with Mary Magdalin, why couldn't he deal with the fact that she used to be a Playboy girl, hmm? Is he BETTER than Jesus? Hypocrite!"
LOL...before using a word, please make sure you know what it means. Where was he hypocritical? For him to be a hypocrite, he would have had to accepted the posing as legit for someone else but not for Julie. You and your friends weren't too bright, were you? And if you wanted to put in a religious context remember; if a person (such as Mary M) showed remorse and owned up to their mistakes...thats one thing. If a person didnt acknowledge it and continued on showing no level of remorse...thats something else entirely. Do we understand now?
Edit: Of course...the (and I rarely use this language) @sshole puredieselbc decided to give his weak opinion...so it should be expectedly exposed as the weak narrative it is. So enjoy.
"Who said her posing for Playboy was a mistake?"
Who specifically? Not sure...I never took a survey. But to many people, exposing your genitals so millions of guys can get off and getting paid for it isnt the most admirable of choices to make.
"Why should Julie have had to ask for his forgiveness?"
If Julie is going to work on a show (or company) geered towards a younger audience, it only makes sense to come clean about such choices that would give a negative public perception of them. Tim Allen's drug past came up when he was up and coming and came clean about it.
"It's none of his business what she did before they met."
Not actually true. If there is a public action that one makes, people have every right to have an opinion on it...especially if they are connected with said individual. As they say, the people you keep in company are a reflection of you.
"He's still a jerk."
To a person who backs an essential prostitute, perhaps. But the higher classes of people know otherwise.
"Do we understand now?"
Well since that comment was regarding several posters' inability to understand the basic meaning of the word "hypocrisy" and you didnt address it, it appears there is no understanding despite assistance. But learning the meaning of the word hypocrisy is likely not the biggest many of these posters' problems given their flawed perspectives.
DO WE UNDERSTAND NOW?????@sshole?
"Life with no freedom is a waste. Freedom with no honor is a bigger waste."
"How's the steak?" "It was poisoned (argh)...and a little rare" (collapses).
