bird of prey blows up Grissom with one shot

where did they hit ?

because in star trek II reliant and Enterprise took hits on the engineering hull and a warp drive narcell was shattered to pieces on reliant and the ships still didn't explode , also Enterprise A took hits to the saucer and the hull

It struck the engine section directly, where the impulse drive is. Remember, Grissom is a very small ship, less than half the size of Enterprise. Bird of Preys are lethal and pack powerful weaponry. Also, Grissom did not have shields up, not even minimum.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Plus the Enterprise is a battle cruiser, the Grissom is a science vessel.
This means the Enterprise also can take a lot more pounding than the Grissom can.

the enterprise is NOT a battle cruiser...lol

Something from Star Trek II (not III) always made me think there are multiple levels of defensive systems on the Star Trek starships. Saavik says something like, "Energize defence fields." This is before Kirk orders the shields to be raised.

So I wonder if smaller ships don't have "defence fields", or only have shields and not defence shields. The Grissom never had time to raise shields, if it had them.
