I just saw this film last night and I'm wondering what was the point??! Richard Burton and John Hurt were great but that's about it.

No i think the film is a good representation of the book , and the book is a masterpiece and
" a classic literary example of political and dystopian fiction. "

I wonder if 1984 book or movie is allowed in China?

I am guessing no.

There are now so many security cameras in China, face recognition software is now so good, along with the governments ability to monitor phones, that 1984 is no longer sci fi.

it is far worse than 1984 because there at least Winston Smith had the inside of his head to himself. Today kids are sucked into this consumer world because the system and the adults know how to manipulate kids before they are even conscious. Maybe Animal Farm was the better book.

A Brave New World is more like our society than 1984.

Orwell wrote the book as a counterpoint to Brave New World, but was wrong.

In BNW people are oppressed with consumerism and shallow nonsense. IN 1984 it's horrible control and micromanagement, which is too hard. It's easy to get women, the decision makers in most homes, to be obsessed with shopping, fashion, trends, etc and distract the hell out of everyone with things like colors and shoes.

I didn't like the movie. It was boring and I don't give a damn about Richard Burton and John Hurt. Famous actors, but actors are only the faces of movies, they don't write or adapt the story to film.

The book really needs to be re-imagined and adapted in some meaningful way, and if that cannot be done, forget it.
