OK, so who cried at the end?

I know I'm opening myself up to a lot of ribbing, but I've had a few Vodkas, so I'm feeling brave.

Did anyone find the end of this film remarkably touching? I first saw the film (in it's adulterated, 1985 American makeover) while I was working at a movie theatre in the early 1990s. As the Godzilla creature was dying, crying out as he burned to death in the volcano, I actually started crying!

Godzilla (in this film, anyway) was simply a product of our human ingenuity when it comes to finding ways to destroy ourself (nuclear weapons, etc) and in turn it came to bit us on the bum (Godzilla.)

I can't be the ONLY one who was genuinely touched by the creature's demise, can I? Hey, at least I'm man enough to admit it publically!

I did.... I had to be like 5 or 6 when I saw it in the Theatre with my dad. I loved Godzilla, and still do. And I cried at the end.

Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone got one, and I don't want yours.

yeah, I cried the first time if memory serves me correctly.

I didn't cry, but I do remember the first time I saw it as a little kid, the high pitched sound of his screaming did make me feel genuinely bad for him.

First movie to EVER make me cry. Never wanted to see it again.

Don't let that stop you. This is a terrific Godzilla film. One of my favorites.

I was maybe 7 when my grandmother took me to see it. She's no longer with me, but my daughters love Godzilla movies. I keep a VHS players only for this movie and we all feel bad for the poor fella when he gets trapped along with the music plus his scream is pretty sad.

It really is one of the best isn't it, probably my favorite since the original.

I used to watch this movie all the time growing up and, I swear, to this day I tear up EVERY TIME! It's a very emotional ending.

Years and years later, I found out about Godzilla vs Biollante and I found the scene where he burst out of the volcano strangely cathartic, like an eternal wrong had been made right! Then again, I like Godzilla a little too much.

Yup, first time I saw it as a kid, I was about 9 or 10, and it broke my heart. I watched this not too long ago again with my girlfriend and got misty eyed, I didn't cry but I came close. My girl laughed at me. I told her "Women cry when Jack goes down with the Titanic, Men cry when Godzilla goes into a volcano." Nuff said!

I was a kid when I first saw it. It was the Americanized Godzilla: 1985.

Every weekend my mom would take us to Blockbuster (RIP), and get us each a movie. Mine was almost always a Godzilla movie, and this one was my favorite.
The first time it made me cry. Raymond Burr standing there, watching the video monitors...yup. Totally cried.
I cried at the end of Rodan, too.

I also had my parents rent me Godzilla films from Blockbuster all the time. There was also a local shop called Video Cinema which we'd frequent. One time we went there and rented this one. I was 8 or 9 at the time. I cried like a baby. Completely broke my heart. I was astounded, thinking to myself "they can't kill Godzilla!"

I didn't cry but I just sat in this stunned, kicked-in-the-gut silence for a long, long time. I'd feel very ill at ease anytime my brother (the real Godzilla fan in the family, at least at that time) would bring it up. It was really upsetting and even watching it a few minutes ago on YouTube (the reason I'm here to begin with) nearly 20 years after seeing it the first time was very unsettling.

On a lighter note, I will have to use the Titanic comparison the next time someone makes fun of me for tearing up at the end of Terminator 2.

ha! Don't feel bad, i saw this when I was 9 and that scream that Godzilla gives at the end just gets me. Never before or since have I heard the big guy cry like that. The music is also very emotional and the actors themselves, particularly the Japanese P{rime Minister seem so distraught. I think it's the reaction the film makers were going for.

Yep, guilty as charged.
