Doctor Sleep is to the The Shining what 2010 is to 2001?

Yes, but it was a well done sequel compared to Dr. Sleep, but also, Dr. Sleep, the movie was good as opposed to the boring Novel..

I guess so (although I enjoyed 2010 more than I did 2001!).

Both movies weren't necessary, however, 2010 does offer a plausible explanation as to what happen to the crew of the Discovery and Dave Bowman who became part of an Alien race. Doctor Sleep was a sequel to The SHINING no one asked for nor cared for, but was serviceable if there's nothing else on latenight. The torturing of the kid was a bit much
