The ending of Trading Places is irresponsible

This is the problem with people's fantasy of being rich. Instead of wanting to build something people tend to want to retire at 30 to some tropical paradise and do nothing. The ending of the movie should've been Louis and Billy Ray creating their own firm and creating wealth not just for themselves but their community.

Hunh. Didn't realize I was supposed to be learning life's moral lessons from 80s comedies. I thought that is what Afterschool Specials were for.

No wonder people look at me funny when I constantly declare it to be beef jerky time.

They could have just been taking a vacation they don't have to be working right away or whatever. They deserved a break for all that they been through.

Please pull the huge stick out of your bottom.

What? No.

I do feel the ending is irresponsible, but because of what they did at the stock market. They screwed the dukes, but also a sh!t load of other random investors.

i had a client ask me once if i was going to play powerball that night... it was 400M. he asked what i'd do if i won - single winner. matter-of-fact, i told him that i'd quit and likely move to an island. his response, "that's a horrible thing to say to a client. it shows you have poor work ethic"

i don't live to work. sign me up for "world traveler"

The only thing I found irresponsible is the women were only wearing skimpy bikinis and the men were wearing sweaters and in Coleman's case a sports jacket. Those men were putting themselves in danger of having heat stroke

People on ludes should not drive!

I wondered about that too. It's like the men were in a different climate than the women.

Agreed

After causing two rich elderly men to go bankrupt for no reason other than petty revenge, I'd need a good two-week vacation in the Bahamas myself. Cut 'em some slack.

reply

What the Duke brothers did was brutal. Nothing petty about wanting to be revenged for that.

reply

Petty???? The Dukes destroyed Winthorp's life and were planning to throw Valentine back into the gutter. I'd say their revenge was justified.

reply

STFU, OP.

It wasn't me who was murdered, was it?
