The ending of Trading Places is irresponsible

This is the problem with people's fantasy of being rich. Instead of wanting to build something people tend to want to retire at 30 to some tropical paradise and do nothing. The ending of the movie should've been Louis and Billy Ray creating their own firm and creating wealth not just for themselves but their community.

You should go out more. It helps...

Maybe they were just taking a much needed vacation.

There isn't anything that suggested they lived out the rest of their lives in the Bahamas. Also, the ending kind of reminds of "The Shawshank Redemption" in that the majority of most movies are in a rather bleak setting then end on a beach. So I suspect the ending is just as much a catharsis for the characters as it is for the audience.

This world would be a better place to live in if more people were so "irresponsible" as to have other goals besides the relentless pursuit of wealth.

This was an 80s movie. That was considered an inspiring ending back then.

Imagine how it would be if all movie and TV productions had to have the "Touched By An Angel" or a Disney type/totally PC premis. It would get pretty boring after awhile. Nothing wrong with those types of shows, but just saying....

reply

Yes, that is how the 80s were.

I'd love to watch that sequel: "Trading Places - Micro Lenders".

"Someone has been tampering with Hank's memories."

Yeah, that would have *really* worked within the tone of the film. Yawwwwwwwwnnnnnnn.....

The OP probably copied his remarks from something Tucker Carlson said to Greg Gutfeld. Wait a minute, something Greg Gutfeld said to Tucker Carlson. Or was it the other way around?

All the film did was show them relaxing on a beach somewhere. Draw your own conclusions as to what they were going to do for the rest of their lives. I don't think the film suggested they were going to spend the rest of their days sitting on a beach sipping champagne.

When I said I wanted to be a comedian, they all laughed at me. Well, they're not laughing now!

Nothing wrong with that ending!

Its that man again!!

I also thought it was completely irresponsible in its trivialisation of marijuana a.k.a. pot use. Are they not aware that hundreds of thousands of people's lives are tragically cut short under the impression perpetuated by this filthy movie that toking on a reefer cigarette is just a bit of harmless fun?

These bastards!

Your post is a joke, right? You can't possibly be that ignorant and still be breathing on your own.

I spend my money on dope, sex and cheap thrills.
The rest of it, I waste.

Trying to find moral messages in a comedy film is irresponsible.
