What happened next in your mind's eye?

Interested in what you folks thought might have occurred just after the film's ending.

My assumption is that after the initial shock of learning Angela was in fact the killer and NOT a girl, the male counselor (forgot his name) managed to coax Angela/Peter to put down the knife. Afterward, "Angela", talking in Angela's voice says somethng along the lines of "I'm sorry about what Peter did". Meanwhile, more counselors show up, some campers as well, staring in total shock and disbelief. Someone brings a blanket to cover the headless corpse of Angela/Peter's latest victim. Just then the cop who was at the camp (the one with the fake mustache) comes over to see what happened. When he is told what happened, he places Angela/Peter under arrest, takes him/her to the cop car. Just then, "Peter" re-emerges, yelling "Ricky!RICKY! DON'T LET THEM TAKE ME AWAY! RICKY!" Then "Angela" again. She calls for Ricky too. Then Peter again, then Angela again. As Angela/Peter is being taken away, Peter let's out more primal screams.

The next day, the story is in the newspapers. Camp Arawak is shut down, and that's when the urban legands start.

Then Ricky, making full use of his loud pre-puberty crackling voice shouts, "ANGELA!!!!!" one last time as the cop car drives away.

Angela is subdued and taken into police custody before eventually being institutionalized.

While this unfolds, the truth of what his/her aunt did to him/her comes to light, and she, too, is incarcerated or institutionalized; as a result, Ricky either is placed in the care of a relative or foster parents.

In time, after several long and difficult years of therapy, Angela begins to heal, learning how to interact and relate to men and women properly, culminating with his full transition to living the life of a man. He never becomes fully comfortable with sexuality, but still manages to have a number of successful romantic relationships (with both sexes, probably).

In the end, he ends up getting married, but probably never has children (partially due to a fear that his past life will somehow come back to haunt him and rub off on them).

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for.

Considering the 3 sequels, your answer doesn't really fit.

By the way, I am right behind you.

I'd assume the camp shut down and everyone went on with their lives while Angela is locked up or in therapy until the sequels or Return comes into play. Hiltzik has said that the sequels by Michael J. Simpson aren't in canon with the storyline, but whatever.

Sleepaway Camp 2 I imagine.

Lots and lots of therapy for Peter, and Angela being a homicidal alternate personality. I hate that they went the transwoman route in the sequels.
