3.1 GPA, 560 SAT

and this dude thinks he can get into Princeton. Get real, bro.

560 was his verbal score, not the total score. I think his math was 597.

If his total score was 560 he wouldn't even go to community college, let alone Ivy League.

That's what they call a "reach" college for a guy like Joel.

When did they switch to the 2400 + essay scoring? Was 1430 a good score back then? Princeton is the No. 1 ranked university in the country this year according to U.S. News & World Report with an average score of 780 on each section. That 3.1 GPA would not even get a legacy passed the first round, though a football hopeful might eek through with it.

1430 would have been above the average at Princeton back then. Remember, this was before the SAT recentering of 1995 so 1430 back then is about the equivalent of a bit over 1500 now.

In order to get in with Joel's qualifications you would need to donate a library.

the 560 was only one part his total was closer to 1100

The film never tells us whether Joel got into Princeton. The only thing we know is that he impressed the interviewer. Interviews carry very little weight in admissions. Maybe Joel had an Aunt Becky who paved the rest of the way for him.
