The car dealer

So did he intentionally want Clark to take the family truckster or was it a legit mistake they made? Also why would he want Clark to take the truckster? Was it because it was a piece of garbage and was worth less than the Antarctic Blue sports wagon he wanted? Also if they flattened the car Clark gave them wouldn’t that like defeat the whole purpose considering now they can’t sell it?

reply

It was a bait and switch. He wanted him to take the truckster since it was such a piece of crap and they were getting him to overpay for it. As for the crushing of his car, a lot of times dealerships don't give much for trade-ins and really just do it so you'll take the car from them. So since they wanted to get rid of the truckster so bad then the trade-in meant nothing. And crushing the car made it so it was a done deal.

reply

Got it so I guess Clark had to pay the same price he would have for the Antarctic blue sports wagon? I mean if he didn’t he wouldn’t have a car

Yea it was the same price. And the salesman tried to build it up like he was getting a great deal and like it was better than the one Clark ordered/wanted.

reply

Makes sense and Clark always could have just walked away and held out for the sports wagon but then he’d be without a car for six months which would have greatly interfered with his Walley World plans

reply

The whole scene is a plot hole

reply

How so?

reply

No dealership crushes a car that quickly. Not to mention there was no reason for them to junk it. I see you're one of those posters that I have to spoon feed to

reply

Characters not behaving the way you feel they should does not constitute a plot hole. Nice try kid.

reply

Yet in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you told me when the nazi's didn't leave anyone to watch Indiana and his dad tied up to the chair in the castle, you called that a plot hole. Now you are telling me that characters not acting the way you feel is not a plot hole. Which one is it?

reply

That is very much a plot hole because in order for the plot to move forward the characters have to act like they would never act.

reply

The nazi did not want to kill Indy or his dad. They just wanted them tied up while they thought what they had was the inside track in search of the Grail

I think it's unclear if the dealer screwed up on the order or if it was intentional. But once the salesman knew they had the wrong car, he clearly started bullshitting.

I don't understand why they would crush that Vista Cruiser station wagon. That was actually a really good car.

reply

The dealer DEFINITELY knew what he was doing! He kept trying to blame "Davenport" for the "mix-up". The truckster was OBVIOUSLY a piece of shit that the dealer needed to unload. The dealer was literally a career bullshitter.

The 2 reasons that I can figure with crushing the car is: 1. The car is crushed, makes it a done deal and Clark MUST take the truckster and/or 2. For scrap metal. Sell it to a junk man or whoever for the metal.

reply

When I shop for a new car I always ask if they have the color in "metallic pea". I like to see the salesman (or womans) reaction.

reply

It was the Lou Glutz dealership, and Clarke had ordered the Antarctic Blue Super Sports Wagon with the
CB and the optional rally fun pack. Bait and switch yes, and price was never discussed.
