i don't know about you, but i've always thought of this as a family viewing, but lately i've realised how weirdly much adult material it contains for a movie about a family travelling to an amusement park, it's full of nudity and often gross stuff (like cousin eddie's daughters line "yeah but daddy says i'm the best"), the upcoming movies in the franchise, especially the third, is much more clean and family friendly, and according to everyone i know the funniest as well, how often does that happen with a third movie, still of course i like this 1983 flick, both this and the second has great end credits scenes and music (this spoofed in "family guy"), but unfortunately cut when airing on commercialised television stations, at the start of this, something i've never noticed before is clark's computer set up looking so strange, hooked up to a tv set. the actress playing audrey in this returned in the role in "christmas vacation 2: cousin eddie's island adventure", also remarkable how chevy chase sings the tune "swing low, sweet chariot" in two different comedies he starred in (this in the car travelling with his family, seems a bit out of place, right?) and "fletch" (as he is locked in a cell), that was my first experience of the song, now i know it covered so many times it's too much to mention, and as you say he also talks about singing zip-a-dee-doo-dah as he is having a rant in the car, another of the most memorable things in this is clark's comment about the famous model he was in a pool with: "she's ugly" and as he's out in the middle of nowhere threatening the redneck mechanic about going to the police, and the redneck laughs and flips open his sheriff's badge.

under the midday sun,
animals n farmhands work field,
as fight broke out in sweltering heat,
from dung n mudslingin you escaped with me,
down shadows of the hayballs,
still like solar power you rise my soul,
felt i was flyin at high noon,
but as i looked above saw the midnight moon.
