which is worse?
This film or Superman 4? I really cant decide.
shareI never thought about it. I enjoy both, and though both are generally bad and have lousy special effects, I'd probably say JAWS 3 is worse. SUPERMAN IV is just more memorable, and has some neat ideas. It was basically screwed over mostly because Cannon Films kept cutting its budget. I'm not sure what the excuse was for JAWS 3.

Definitely Superman IV, but Jaws: The Revenge is much worse than either of the two...so there's that...
shareThis movie can't hold a candle to Supes IV in terms of sheer "OH MY GOD HOW DID THIS FILM EVER GET MADE" crapitude. Jaws inevitable sequels were almost guaranteed to stink to high heaven. Your lead character is a shark. Sharks don't have much personality. All they could do was cue the famous two notes have people scream in terror, and make the shark a little bigger.
A good writer could take a Supeman movie any of a hundred different ways and come up with a competent product. So what did they do? Nuclear Man. Lex Luthor . . again. Unbelievably on-the-nose peacenik preaching. And they stripped the budget to nothing to ensure that not only was it a horrible idea, it was a horrible idea without enough money to dress up like a real movie.
Sorry; Jaws 3 is indeed bad, but TQFP has been my "worst movie ever seen in a theater" and my "worst installment in a popular franchise" since I saw it opening weekend. I was 14 at the time, and even then I knew I had seen something historically awful.

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.
Two different circumstances. You have to be fair to TQFP. The film was already set to shoot under a budget of $30 million. At the last moment, that was slashed to $17 million. On a big special effects movie of 1987, how could any film cope with that? As Jon Cryer said in a 2012 interview, "the movie that was released was an unfinished film".
Jaws 3 had a larger budget, and whilst it had a 3D process, it had by volume of shots, less opticals to accomplish than TQFP had.
As for story, Reeve wanted to do something that appealed to him - nuclear disarmament. Jaws 3 had "mother comes to avenge her dead baby".
I don't think the budget shenanigans earn the film a pass. All that does is shift blame to Cannon Films. And, cheap-o producers aside, how much better could it have reasonably been even with an extra $15 mil? It's ceiling would've moved from "godawful" to "pathetic".
shareIt would have improved the special effects which is what the biggest complaint is for that film.
Obviously nothing can be done about the 1980s fashion or hair.
I'm gonna go with Jaws 3-D was worse just because it was so horrible, and because I saw it in the theater and remember how disappointing it was. I just haven't seen Superman IV as much on TV so it is sort of a rare treat, even though I agree it's bad too.
Also, Superman III pretty much helped ease the transition between great sequel and sucky sequel (though it is eminently more enjoyable than Jaws 3-D or Superman IV). Whereas the drop-off from Jaws 2 to Jaws 3-D was completely unexpected - a total bait-and-switch.
In my opinion, Jaws 3, because at least Superman had Christopher Reeve in it. He was a pretty good actor, wheras Jaws 3 was full of boring actors, boring dialogue, and plastic acting. They probablt should have saved themselves some money and cast Barbie and Ken dolls as the main charcters.

What I Want To Do To These Movies
Jaws 3-D/Superman 4
Superman 4 is just terrible. Id watch Jaws3 over Superman 4.
shareJaws 3.
They're both watchable, but Superman 4 takes itself too seriously for what's being presented. While Jaws 3 doesn't have the pretense.
Superman IV was bad that it actually hurt. It seemed to actually hold the audience in contempt. Hemingway had great legs though.
Jaws 3 is fun and intentionally goofy.... At least tries to make the audience enjoy themselves.
Ummm... gonna have to go with Jaws 3. In Superman IV, at least Nuclear Man is kind of entertaining (in a omg this is so stupid, what the hell were they thinking, kind of way), but its something.
